I like Tern :) I don't do that much work for them but when I do there are reasonable reports, adequate fees and they pay on a timely basis :)

Hi everyone, This is my first post on these forums. I've been reading for a while now. I started mystery shopping a month of so ago and have completed quite a number without issue. However, today AA have refused to pay me for a visit to a jewellery shop as they say I was recognised as the mystery shopper. At no point during the proceedings did I feel that I'd been recognised or that anything was unnatural, either for myself or the assistant. I mean, we have to follow everything listed in our brief and that IS unnatural- what normal shopper would ever ask all those questions?! Anyway, I'm rather unhappy about this and have requested a full explanation and stated that they can't penalise me for asking all the questions in the brief. Does this happen often?

They are well known for it. Not a good company to work for IMHO and one that seems to be amongst the first that new shoppers drop. Fight them for the fee then walk away

AA are a pack of scheister who I will never EVER shop for again. Worse than MF both in terms of fees for work done and general shopper treatment. Dont be disheartened, if they wont pay you, and assuming they are still members write to the MRS and MSPA (if they still operate in the UK) to complain. I got paid in full and told them to shove their job offers where the sun dont shine.
This was 6 months out of date so I've changed it.

Thanks for your replies! I will bear that in mind. This is the 2nd shop I completed for them, had no probs with the first one! The comments I have been given is that I was memorable- I won't wear my bright pink coat ever again when mystery shopping- as that's the only reason I can possibly think as to why I'd be memorable. They also said I seemed nervous and not confident which I would entirely dispute. The one that really gets me- is they say I changed my story which I absolutely did not. Throughout the whole shop I followed the brief to the letter saying I was buying a watch as a gift for my sister-in-law.

I will ditch them pronto after complaining to the MRS and the other you mentioned. Thanks

It always seems odd to me that staff feed back that they spotted a shopper. You'd have thought they'd just play along and put on a floor show to score easy brownie points.

Being recognised is not a reason to not be paid. You did the job to their specification, threaten them with Small Claims Court.

Exactly what I was thinking. I got busted once doing a super expensive handbag shop for React. The thing is they didn't accept the report because they knew I was special. However, the service was shambolic and I think it scored 5 out of 10!

    ESA paid today.

Did a spicy chicken for RE today and all the staff were talking about the mystery shopper coming in today and how they were all going to be super nice. Little did they know the mystery shopper was sat listening to their conversation!

I am finding these more and more astonishing, how hard it is to understand the concept that if your nice and just do your job you wouldn't be even talking about it in front of the mystery shopper lol I like those who treat everyone with the same courtesy because that's your job and your not looking for a mystery shopper lol it's not hard lol x
