iPhone 5 prices

Prices according to Apple Store (UK and US):
UK:
16GB: £529
32GB: £599
64GB: £699
US:
16GB: $649 = £403
32GB: $749 = £465
64GB: $849 = £527
US prices are about what I expected to pay in the UK! £699 for an iPhone seems a bit ridiculous! Thoughts? How does this compare with other top drawer smart phones? It means an iPhone is more expensive than a comparable iPad which seems weird.

I suppose I would expect to pay a premium to squeeze ipad in my pocket but ill never pay that for a phone unless it also turns into a lifeboat (Alice Cooper) )When will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?0 -
You've forgotten that the UK prices include VAT whereas the US prices do not include US sales tax. To make a proper comparison, either remove VAT (divide by 1.20) or add US sales tax. It's easier to remove the former than add the latter because the latter varies by state. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/US_sales_tax#By_jurisdiction0

The UK price will probably still be more expensive - but nowhere near the differences of your loose calculations.0 -
Question.. If I buy an iPhone 5 without a contract, will my current SIM fit in it?0
-
Pricing is on par with the Galaxy S III in terms of storage capacity. Its more in the UK than the US but that's pretty standard. Nobody should have expected 400 for the 16GB variant as its always been around the 500 mark over here. Expect to pay more than you should for an iPhone because of its popularity. Its there to rip you off and its ultimately because there are millions who will just blindly pay it. There will even be people who would have pre-ordered it before even seeing it! How ridiculous is that? The only way to combat this is to fund competition in the market... Best example I can use is BTs monopoly on the broadband market... If, when Talk Talk massively undercut them in price, people didn't switch then their pricing wouldn't have changed... But when people left in droves they were given no option but to actually compete.
The majority of people now have the iPhone on some sort of throne and its not likely to change. From a money saving view there are many phones that can fit peoples needs at a fraction of the price.0 -

No:
"iPhone 5 is not compatible with existing micro-SIM cards."

You will need a 'nano' SIM which I assume all networks will eventually be able to provide for existing customers.0

It is a bit steep at £529 starting price!0

I wonder if there is a way to cut down a Sim / Micro Sim to a Nano Sim (like you can with a Sim to a Micro Sim), from what I've read the Gold Chip / Connector is the same it's just the plastic that's been cut down to the minimum.
So maybe there is a way & Nano Sim Cutter will be on sale soon....0
