recieved voucher from "survey uk" in cheltenham , tells to ring number to claim prize ( clearly states not a premium rate number) -phoned similar few years back and it was offer of "gold" gym membership -(but didnt take as no intrest in gyms and was suspicous that there is more than just free gym membership -perhaps for me to buy something else?)
anyone else come across survey uk?(google wont find) -im a tad suspicous

I got one of these myself today, and after searching the web was directed here.

The telephone number is not premium rate, and it says I have been nominated one of 29 prizes donated by local businesses if I just phone the number.

My web search also came up with a company of the same name, also in Cheltenham, selling web services? Maybe I'll just have to phone up, find out what's going on, and report back here.

Having had one of these mailings this morning, I set to googling and found the above link. It refers to a complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority. Most complaints were upheld. It appears the majority of their prizes are gym memberships that require an activation fee, but that there are '2 out of 40' prizes that actually do not require this fee. The adjudication concluded that they were no longer allowed to say that a person had won a prize but that they'd been allocated a gift. The thing that makes me most suspicious is that the mailing didn't have our name on it, just our address and we were most concerned about being inundated with junk mail if we were to contact them.

Any chance of quoting the number? the first 5 digits will do, if it begins 084/087 then it is premium rate despite what you will be told.

yep I got one on friday addressed simply to Mr/Mrs ... phone number starts 01242

Just had one of these today. My wife rang up and was offered £750 (value) Gold Membership to a local gym. The only thing required would be a £3 per week 'voluntary' charge, with the option to add other members of the family. This is ideal for us, but we just need to understand how 'voluntary' the weekly charge is. I'll post an update if I find out !!!

Just received one today in Wrexham valid until 19th, same as the others, no name and printed address......... looked at 192.com and the company has no registered employees and no company details/director details etc, so appears iffy.

Have consigned my "gift" :rolleyes: to the shredder.
