Is no one buying second hand cars at the moment?

Options
Been trying to sell our lovely BMW due to needing a bigger car. There's nothing wrong with it, it is in really good condition etc.

Priced it well, it is the cheapest for it's model/age within 60 miles. 6 weeks on Autotrader passed with not one phone call. It's been up on eBay for a week, not one call about it.

Can't figure out why.

Any advice? Next stop is webuyanycar.com...

Depending on age, I wouldn't buy one where a new key can be coded through the OBD port after smashing the window...

It could be the advert. It could be the price.

If you post the advert here, we may be able to help you improve it. You can check the price yourself by looking at similar cars on autotrader - as a private sale you should be cheaper than dealers.
  • ...and try advertising on Gumtree too. OH would look there before he'd look at any other sites...

Here is the link to the eBay ad, the Autotrader one has finished but it was cheaper (a lot) than dealers, which is essentially the same as the Autotrader one.

Can't see much wrong with it myself, some interior pics maybe?

There are hundreds of 3 series diesels for under £9k.
Lower mileage ones on auto trader start around £8k - from a dealer with warranty too. And they haven't even sold.

How much are WBAC offering on site?

    This.

Within minutes I found an 09 plate with similar mileage, from a dealer for £1k less than what you're advertising.

2007/8 models of similar spec, from my searches, are closer to the £6k mark from private sellers.

Actually jaydeeuk1, there are 29 within 60 miles of where we live of similar models/age/mileage.

I do not expect anyone from the other side of the UK would be interested in buying my car when they can buy one closer to where they live.

Sorry, I'm not being argumentative but doing a search on Autotrader for a BMW 3-series, 3L upwards, up to 5 years and 60k miles - nationally - I only get 99 cars. the cheapest is £7,995 and the one after is £10,495.

So not quite what you are saying above...
  • Hello all - I think the problem is (and im not saying you are) there are soo many bad sellers out there - on sunday we bought a second hand car - ( 2hours to get there!)great photos great write up etc etc - hubby checked it all over etc as he knows what he is doing - very happy - paid the man and then 10 mins down the road and once hubby hit 60mph smoke and noises coming from under the bonnet! - it wasnt the most expensive car but £2500.00 has taken a long time to save up! - so we took it back to the seller and to be honest we were not leaving till we had our money back! - he hadnt put the fault in his advert nor did he give us a 'sold as seen' receipt - so we pretty much staged a a sit in lol - so now we have been totally put of 'private' sellers - as its such a risk when your spending your hard earned money - we are now buying the same car from a small dealer and car comes with 3 months warranty and everything - the peace of mind is so much better - knowing that if anything goes wrong in that time we are covered - better than 10 mins down the road - unfortunately honest sellers are missing out because of all the devious con men - maybe if your 100% sure your car is in tip top condition offer a 2-3 day guarantee - its the fear of the dreaded drive home after parting with cash that has put us off for life - and at least then people will know your honest? good luck
