Had salad and spicy chicken for dinner, more veggie soup for tea (dd3 made) then some more bar things as pud. Just sat and watched take me out with girls and a lunch box of prepared fruit. Just having a glass of wine, it being saturday nite and all, is my only sin today honest.

Loaded freebie app on kindle to monitor weight loss... just need some to get started. But it is a bit of a motivator to see just how fat you are.

Ironing and Sunday chores done as work tomoz as short again (reason below)

Had a situation at work on Friday, still trying to decide if I was right or wrong, but haven't reached a conclusion. A staff member who leaves on Sunday told her colleagues earlier in the week she wasn't going to do her last few shifts, one rang me Friday and strongly suggested need to cover these shifts, about 20 mins later, the staff member rang me and said she was unwell and wouldn't be in. i probably didn't word it well (tbh) but I said something like "ru sure" "yeah feel really fluey" "oh right, bit strange that Ive already been told you have said you'll be off, eh?" nurse was really upset, "was only joking when I said that, I am really ill, Im at home, I can't believe you'd think this, having worked for "ward" for "X" years" . Started verbally sobbing. I do like this nurse, she was a good worker, but she also asked me about sick policy in detail on her last shift with me, (this week) which at the time I thought was odd. I initially think perhaps genuinely upset as Ive misjudged this situation or is it because caught out. Hate making people cry but still unsure, was I mean? Pre talking to her, I was toying with dropping an email to her new boss.
I average a person a day in my office for a cry, either within my department or external. I had already had that days person. I usually mop not cause. I hate thinking I have misjudged and upset someone but have I??

I had a situation myself a few years ago which completely changed how I felt about work colleagues and I still haven't quite got over it. I was at the beginning of my OU course, my manager was behind me and agreed 1 x 7.5 study day per assignment as study leave. Now I probably take a million hours per assignment as Im so thick. I quite literally read everything as I need as much help as I can get. Anyway extension due to start, so I crack on. Assignment and module finished several weeks early, but took study leave in easter hols to coincide with works. Put on facebook "thank goodness, last assignment in for this module". Next day gets an email from Boss, saying gross misconduct as taking study leave when not studying, my response but I have done all the studying, "well you don't need leave then, all study leave cancelled" so had to go in and work. Was mortified, A- colleague read facebook and felt need to tell manager that not studying. B Its distance learning, I had done a massive amount of studying hours, no where near 7.5 hours. I felt like Id cheated the NHS but clearly hadn't. Still makes me feel sad. The end result was a post within the team I had applied for at that time, I no longer felt I wanted to work for that manager or team, so the day of the interview I withdrew my application (much to everyones shock / horror) and I returned to my original post about a week later. Was quite a big decision but I couldn't get over a feeling of being let down.
I am now very careful what / if I put anything on FB. I also am very careful about work colleagues.

    ...Gosh how cathartic..

So what do you think.. Tilly at least can help...

  • Honestly Helen I think she had the whole thing planned and was obviously serious if the other nurse felt the need to warn you about getting the shift covered. I think this happens quite a bit in the NHS...some people take the complete p**s of the sick pay system and it ruins it for everyone else. I think the girl started to cry because she was probably so embarrassed, the phrase "loose lips sink ships" springs to mind.

    Dont call yourself thick.
I think its a situation best left behind you. Notalot you can do if leaving colleague was self certifying. At least she knew you knew.
I am not on faceache except in MSE username for that very reason.

Oh H, I couldn't agree more with both wantabetterlife and Alchemilla. Your colleague's 'sickness' was either premeditated or very unfortunate (given that she had planned to be sick anyway, then was genuinely struck down with a flu bug:cool:)

Also, you have a MASTERS degree and make/have made life saving decisions. You are, and always will remain totally awesome. You are not thick (I am however:D)

    Love ya! NPX

PS. Not that you made an inappropriate post at the time, however I would always be very, very cautious on F/B (or any social media in general). I have known senior school staff finding themselves in hot water - also credibility has taken a real knock.

    ^^^ what they said ^^^

(especially about Natty being thick :rotfl:)

    Sounded pre-meditated to me.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

  • Thanks Guys for all your support xxxx
Feel genuinely surprised by her actions but then why would you say it? Surely she must realise how that makes her colleagues feel, even if they are soon to be ex colleagues.

Very busy today, was quite short (spooky eh!).

People say the strangest things thinking that it's ok. When I was Attandance officer at the local secondary school the amount of students who'd get letters/ phone calls re absence saying it was genuine but had previously been overheard (or their parents were overheard) telling my (very friendly and had been there for years and years) student support staff colleague thay they were getting their hair cut/ off to a concert that night in X city, etc etc.... I sat about 4ft away from the SSO - we shared an office.... clearly the students - and parents - just weren't thinking/ didn't care....!!!

Aside from that, seconded/ thirded/ fourthed ;) what the others have said. Don't put yourself down x

  • Thanks greent. You do overhear some interesting things I find. Or staff slip out the strangest things.

Being short staffed has definitely made me work more clinically and that's been really nice in that I have worked alongside most of the team, plus my understanding of the speciality has massively improved.
Have 3 new starters next week, 2 starting in Feb and im interviewing Friday and Wednesday so things slowly will improve.

Been at work all day so clearly keeps any spending at bay.
Tomorrow meeting a friend and also need to food shop and plan.
    Plus need to weigh self....
