I've not had a chance to listen yet, but please go join a choir and sing! I had some singing lessons when I was younger, and sang in the school choir (we did competitions and radio broadcasts) and also the county youth choir (including an Eisteddfod). I tried out for the Welsh Youth choir, but didn't get in as I had tonsilitis.
If you like singing, you will love singing in a choir, I promise, as long as you get the right choir. The social side is fun as well, I made some very good friends along the way.
Please post back when you've joined one
.
PS I'm not currently a member of any choir, I've been spoilt by the conductors I had in school and county choirs, our county conductor was a very special man.Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j
If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!0 -
Haven't had a chance to listen, but I'd say if it's something you're interested in doing, then go for it! If nothing else it's a big confidence builder
. I've been singing myself for the last 15 years or so, on and off...started off getting singing lessons at school (after trying and failing miserably at piano!) and joining the school choir. Since then I've gone on to sing at a variety of events publicly both as part of a choir and as a soloist.
It's great fun and so wonderful to be able to hear yourself improving. I used to be a mezzo soprano (mid-range where most women sit), but a few years back after putting in a lot of work, I managed to increase my range to include soprano as well (the high notes). I was well chuffed
. Sadly, my range isn't as good as it used to be, but I am getting better at singing a variety of different styles (in the early years it was all classical, now I am doing more folk, jazz, etc).
There's a whole world out there just waiting for you to explore - go for it!0 -
i think your voice is lovely ..go for it x0

I am just on the way out of the door to do a night shift but I will log on tomorrow and thank you and reply individually!
I really didn't expect the comments I have got I thought they would mainly be horrible ! lol x0 -
Singing is like playing an instrument - you have to work at it, and listen to what you're doing to improve it. Many people don't, they just think (because they've been told?) that they can't sing so they won't sing. We can all read, but we wouldn't be able to if no one had ever taught us how! So I don't see why people expect anyone (themselves or others) to be amazing singers without ever trying or being taught - go for it, you've no idea what kind of things you'd be capable of

I find https://www.abrsm.org/forums to be a good place for all things musical - have a browse (or post!), there are some very knowledgeable people on there although I have to say I'm more of an instrumentalist than a singer. I've found that just singing in a choir where I've had to listen to myself and others has improved both my voice and my general musicianship

True but there are some people out there who are tone deaf and just can't hold a note no matter how much they practice!0 -
hi everyone
Just an update, been singing with a choir for the past month and having a ball
fun to get out of the house and have some me time!
Thanks for all the advice0 -
And I have listened, and agree with those who say you can sing, so definitely go for it.balletshoes wrote: »i haven't listened to your voice - but honestly, if you want to join a choir and sing for fun, do it
. I've been in choirs and know people who are in adult choirs, some of them don't have the best voices at all but they are still welcome and theres still a place for them.
I've been in several choirs over the last few years, you need to try a few out and see what suits - I'd go for choir over band initially, unless you can afford a few singing lessons. Some choirs require you to be able to read music, can you? Some don't require it, but you get on better if you do. Others do it all by ear - and they're probably more likely not to audition you. Ask about that kind of thing before your first visit.
One thing to consider is whether you want a 'just for fun' choir which does occasional performances on an ad hoc basis, or one which works towards one big performance (or performances). They can be hard work, and frustrating if you can't make the performance dates!Signature removed for peace of mind0
