to sing or not to sing?

I wish I could sing, I could rival Hilda Ogden with my warbling
So if you want to sing then just go for it, what have you got to lose? And just think what you could gain. New friends, new hobby, and time to have fun. Just go for it, after all the saddest words in the English language are the words "If only"Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0 -
Second one was much better, is that the one your husband likes you singing?

Second one much much better than Starship which is a really hard song to sing due to the high notes and pitch.
Although admitedly when i first saw the word Starship I was waiting for " Nothings gonna stop us now" from the 1980s!!!!!
If you enjoy singing go for it

If you enjoy singing then sing who care what anyone says.
You have a sweet voice.
To be honest, I don't believe you're going to be a professional singer but you could develop your voice with help from a coach.0 -
Definitely able to sing! Agree with others - the 2nd one is much better and stronger.
Try 'Kiss Me' by Sixpence None The Richer (I think), 'Chasing Pavements' by Adele, anything by the Cranberries (you have that nice bit to your voice I can't explain, a little 'hook' of sorts at the end of some words like with an Irish accent or something), or 'Torn' by Natalie wotsit.
My hubby was the same - said I had a horrible voice and squinted when I sung (despite me singing in a choir when I was young). I know I don't have the best voice, but my BF says I have a lovely voice and always says he loves it when I sing - and asks me to sometimes. Have seen tears in his eyes lol.
Amazing how some people aren't happy unless they're knocking you - maybe it's a control or ego thing - either way, it'll be down to their own insecurities. (He also said I couldn't drive (the BF says I'm a brilliant driver, far better than him!), and never made me feel desirable (won't say what the BF says/does in that respect but he drools on a regular basis lol).
Good luck - let us know how you get on.
Jx
PS If it's any consolation re the X Factor comment (agree with above you're not likely to win on the first song), but you'd definitely be going through to at least Round 2 on the second song! Please tell us if you're ever brave enough to enter!2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -
I'd definitely go for it if I were you. I cannot sing at all. I can hear myself that I sound like a cat in pain so the only time I sing is indoors or in the car either alone or with OH there. He just laughs and says how awful I sound but he doesn't try and stop me. I love singing though and am always singing indoors
If I could sing even slightly I would join a choir or something. I really wish I could sing. That's the one thing I would change if I could change anything about myself. The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
I love listening to people singing randomly - in the supermarket, workmen etc. I once caught a woman belting out 'Mamma Mia' in her car at a set of red traffic lights - I knew it was that song 'cos it was on the radio and I was singing the same song! We kind of looked at each and laughed and carried on singing! "Yes, I've been broken-hearted, blue since the day we parted!"
I'm always singing at work - lots of people tell me it's nice to hear someone so happy at their work. The biggest compliment I got was a manager asking me if I sang professionally - that was when I first realised I could actually sing.
Mummy - have you ever listened to Scala and Kolacny Brothers? Google it and listen to their version of Coldplay's Yellow - sends shivers down your spine.......0 -
I joined a choir about 18 months ago. Like you singing was something I'd always loved but I had absolutely no confidence in my voice, people had told me I couldn't sing etc and I was terrified at my first session. I chose one that didn't need an audition and when you're in a big group you don't feel anywhere near as self-conscious as you think you will.
I really do consider it one of the best things I ever did. Have met lots of lovely new people, my voice has improved drastically from learning harmonies and vocal exercises - though am not quite ready for solos just yet! - I've performed at concerts and we even sang at the Paralympics closing ceremony a few weeks ago! It's a great stress-reliever and it's drastically improved my confidence, which filters through to other areas of your life.
I would definately say just go for it

Just to echo what others have said - I joined a community choir at the start of the year after wanting to for years (couldn't afford Rock Choir!). Everyone there is lovely, I didn't know a soul when I started but I was welcomed with open arms and the atmosphere is always positive. No-one is expected to sing like a professional and even in a group setting I have learnt and improved so much. I'm at work so can't listen to your links but from what others have said you have a lovely voice and nothing to worry about
