MONEY MORAL DILEMMA: Should Rachel return the dress after wearing it?

  • Munchkin 123 says "She should NOT return it. Some poor unsuspecting consumer would end up buying a second hand dress.............."

Being a cynic I ask whether the dress was brand new when she bought it or had someone else done exactly the same thing?

I wonder how long the marriage will last once her dream man realises how dishonest she is...

Apart from morally wrong or not, shop assistants have been known to make comments like Its got "Body marks " on it..
or sniff it to smell deodorant or washing powder etc..
The humiliation if they busted you!!

I recently tried on a jacket in M&S and found a petrol receipt in the pocket!
Someone had obviously worn it then returned it for a refund!
If I wanted second hand I would have gone to a charity shop.

It would be very dishonest to return the dress.
There are dress hire agencies if she just wanted to wear it for the day then return it.

I cant' believe this is anywhere near a moral dilemma..... it is just plain wrong in anyone's book.

You bought it, you wore it, it's yours.

If you can't afford it, dont' buy it. If you need a pretty dress for 1 night, rent one.

Do not return it. If you need some money back sell it on eBay.

I wouldn't marry Rachel is she a) was this cr*p with money and b) was this dishonest!

Also, for those that think this is OK because MSE is here to trun the tabels on teh retailer - you've missed the point that it's not the retialer you've cheated , it is the person buyin gthe dress that they think is new but has been worn! How would you feel?!
I love it when a plan comes together :rotfl:

Comments like buying a car and it smelling, or buying clothes and them being dirty are generally unrealistic. So ok the woman who bought the basque was unlucky. But generally the shop is not going to except the dress if it looks worn, it smells or is dirty!

As for the hygiene issue, this is mad, all clothes we buy have been touched by dozens of people, tried on by dozens of people, and probably been dropped on the floor one or two times.

I am not saying I would return the dress, but I don't have an issue if she does. As nothing is really that new, im positive we buy returned goods all the time.

I think if people really want something that is 'uncontaminated' they should perhaps make their own clothes. Just think what that model said, and its so true.

Also I would recommend that you never eat out, EVER!!!!!!
  • It Isn't Clear To Me That Rachel Has Any Statutory Rights Which Would Validate Her Returning This Dress. Arguably, She Would Herself Be Entitled To Feel Wronged If A Store Tried To Foist On Her As New Any Such Worn Merchandise. So, I Guess, Would The Others Urging Her To Return It.

Erm, If she just wore it for the wedding ceramony that's an hour or so of wear, it wouldn't smell, wouldn't be dirty and would be in a prefectly sellable condition.

I'd buy clothes that had been worn if there is no wear. While I dunno I'd do anything like this I wouldn't have any real concern with buying a suit that had 2 hours wear time! I mean, come on, if a £200 dress/suit/what ever has noticable signs of wear after a few hours then how exactly is it worth £200?

Also returns policies generally say that you can return the goods within 28 days in the condition you bought them in. Now, has that condition changed in a few hours? I think not.
  • It isn't a very nice thing to do, and we all know that. If she wants to do the decent thing she should sell it or give it away, it's secondhand. Is she so desperate to impress that she is willing to cheat the company who sold it, and any subsequent buyer, to look good?

I've never done it but when my cousin was younger (before marriage and kids) she used to do it nearly every weekend :o with some part of her outfit usually a jacket - I think it takes a certain sort of person to have the chutzpah to do this and she obviously had it
You should never call somebody else a nerd or geek because everybody (even YOU !!!) is an
"anorak" about something whether it's trains, computers, football, shoes or celebs :p :rotfl:
