Corned beef, egg & chips very unhealthy, but food my old Mum cooked for us during W.W.2 and I'm still here to tell the tale.
She also dipped thick slices of corned beef in batter and fried it
We lived on stodgy food as it was a case of fill the kids up as there were no fridges or freezers around in those days .Food was fairly strictly rationed, so you never went hungry but sometimes you felt a bit hollow.Mind you there were no crisps around then or many sweets for that matter.few ice-creams and sugar was like gold dust0 -
My faves are:
Beans on Toast
Jacket Spuds with cheese and beans
Cheese Omlette
Potato wedges with fried egg and beans
When I was little, on "wash day" my mum used to make us Chips and tinned vegetable soup - It was my favorite meal of the week!0 -
A thing the French call 'Tartiflette' so it sounds posher: fry some left over potatoes, cut into small bits, with an onion and any sort of bacon or ham (can use bacon offcuts from the deli counter or I've done it with left-over bits of chopped up ham hock) whack into a flattish dish, grate a bit of cheese over and flash under grill. Yum.0

Catt xx
I do this, and sometimes add a little chilli powder. My kids love it too.
Trouble is my Mum would be horrified, if a meal doesnt contain 3 veg then she tries to stuff it in. I made a recipe from a Slimming World recipe book, giant pasta shapes stuffed with spinach, quark, and bacon on top of a tomato, onion and garlic sauce. She said I should have added courgettes and mushrooms as there wasnt enough veg!“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -

Another good one for left over boiled potatoes is tortilla. There are regional variations but this is how the Spanish side of my family used to make it (and I still do.)
Boiled potatoes (still firm)
Roughly chopped onion
Fry these together for a few minutes.
Add enough beaten egg (with a little milk) to about half cover them (about one egg person plus an extra one.) Continue to fry and shuffle round the pan. Season to taste.
It shouldn't set like an omlette. It should be messy. Serve with brown sauce.
My husband refused to believe my family didn't just make this up and call it 'tortilla' until his sister moved to Fuerteventura and the locals there have it too.:DMay all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
Ayrshire pizza. A slice of bread toasted on one side. Spread the other side with some ketchup then top with whatever is in the fridge (ham, chicken, tomato, onion, sweetcorn, beans, sausage) then add grated cheese and put under the grill until its golden.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0

Another vote for eggybread - the savoury version.
Agree with the cheese on beans on toast.
Egg & chips
Jacket Spud
Omelettes.
Pork belly strips - these are very cheap and tasty.0 -
My favourite and kids like it too.
Packet of bacon Supernoodles, 1 tin of baked beans and a tin of tomatoes. Heat beans and tomato gently in a saucepan, cook supernoodles and add them stirring well. Just leave for a couple of minutes and then serve.
Tasty, filling and quick for those times when you get back hungry and need something straight away.Don't grow up. Its a trap!
Peace, love and labradors!0 -
