my kids have had home made "hotdogs", normal sausages (not hot dog ones) wrapped in slice of bread that has a dollop of tomato sauce on it . we held them together with a cocktail stick! they had them with baked beans and thought it was great!

makes you wonder why you go to so much trouble other times!!!

Oh yes Donna, I'd forgotten about these. I used to love them. If you use "plastic" bread, cut off the crusts and roll the slices out as thin as you can get them, they're easy to roll the sausage in and they tend to stay put better. Brush them with butter and stick em in the oven. The bread goes lovely and crispy on the outside. Brilliant.

Bit o' cheese on top and serve with mayo for dipping.

We rarely have proper puddings, just fruit, ice cream or a couple of choc biscuits and a cuppa. So sometimes when the kids are at home I do a proper pud with custard as a one-course lunch. Choc sponge pudding is a favourite!

Our favourite puddings are fresh fruit - whatever is in season or cheap; if it's on it's last legs I stew it - covered with natural yoghurt and a spoonful of honey. This is also good for using up left-over custard - lovely mixed with yoghurt! Good for you and delicious and it's surprising what combinations you come up with depending on what's left in the fruit bowl or fridge! DH loves rice pudding which I can't stand - I make one in the slowcooker which lasts him a couple of days. For another delicious topping this is one I found on here ages ago and I can't remember whose recipe it is. It's called Barbados Surprise (I think). Mix equal quantities of natural yoghurt and double cream, place in individual glass dishes (so it looks nice) and sprinkle the top with brown sugar but don't stir the sugar in. It needs to go in the fridge overnight then you'll find that the sugar has gone to the bottom and tastes all caramelly! People are always impressed when I do this when having friends round for dinner! It's especially good on sliced or baked bananas.

    Cheese and banana sandwiches.
Peanut butter and apple/plum/peach sandwiches (really!)
    Cheese and onion/tomato/cucumber sandwiches
pasta with olive oil, olives, capers and grated hard cheese
reheat soup or stew from dinners earlier in the week
Beans on toast is a favourite here since we started making our own bread.
Eggy bread/french toast is great with peas and sweetcorn
Cheese on toast with fried mushrooms on top.
Quick soup made from a cup of red lentils, some stock and root veg

Depending on the age of the children, get them involved in making it too.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

Eggy bread - Yuk!! I remeber eating this once whilst watching Towering Inferno as a kid and being violently sick. Have never been able to bring myself to make it for the kids!

Always a winner for my kids for lunch are good old beans on toast (with a dash of reggae reggae sauce) or boiled egg and soldiers (with asparagus spears if there are any going cheap)

Pannis (great for chucking bits of leftover cooked meat in) or savoury muffins with a big cup of latte (ala Starbucks) also make a nice light lunch.

Agree with Thriftlady - you can't go wrong with bread cheese and apple.
