    Thanks all.

Like you say, probably best just to forget about it now.

Just makes my blood boil the lengths they'll go to, getting members of staff to lie etc, just to avoid apologising.

Hi all... just a little update on this!

I wrote them a massive letter of complaint and was told they would investigate it.

I have now received the details of their investigation and I am absolutely disgusted!!!!!!

They have competely made up a witness, who apparently works at the store.

    The letter states that

    1) My daughter was NEVER hit by the bag, the witness saw it fall directly to the floor - Blatent LIE!!
    2) The witness made sure the child was OK - Blatent LIE!!
    3) The witness claims that he spoke to my child and that she wasn't crying and made no complaint of being injured. - Blatent LIE!!

When the incident happened there was not a single member of staff in sight, which is why I had to go the tills to make a complaint. No-one asked my daughter if she was OK, they weren't interested.

What should I do now? I only ever expected to receive a half a**d apology and now it's made me even more angry, the fact that they've lied about the whole thing. Why not just say 'OK we messed up, we're sorry' ???

Should they still have the CCTV footage? or will it have been conveniently deleted due to how long ago it was?

    Thanks all.

You could always reply asking why - if what they say in their letter is correct that a store employee witnessed it and came over to check your daughter was ok - it wasnt logged in the accident book.

You could also ask why they needed to find any witness when the CCTV from the date in question would have given them irrefutable evidence that the bag didnt hit your daughter, where the employee is word against word (you can be rest assured if the CCTV supported their "witness" statement, they would have included it).

They're basically calling you a liar. I'd be peeved to say the least.

I would call their bluff by asking them for a copy of their witness statement - presumably the member of staff has signed and dated it.

They are probably gambling on the fact that since it's such a minor injury, you won't be making a claim.

Indeed it could be gravity, but without even looking how could the shop know?...

Because the shop is staffed be people who were paying attention in their Physics class?

Their insurance would then rise - which SD will avoid at any and all costs.

Not always, company where I worked had a claim against us by a member of the public but our insurance costs went down that year.
