Sports direct- daughter injured

Firstly I do apologise if this is the wrong section to post this in, I had a good look and this seemed the most fitting..
I took my 5 year old daughter to sports direct yesterday to have a look at trainers. While we were looking at them a bag fell from the ceiling and hit my daughter on her shoulder - i had a look and she had a massive red mark and she was in complete shock...
I went straight to the tills as there were no staff in sight, explained what happened and their attitude was disgusting, all they said was 'and is she alright?' to which i said 'no she isn't' and they said 'oh well sorry about that' - and carried on with what they were doing, serving customers etc.
I'm quite angry about the fact they weren't bothered about a large bag that had fallen from a great height and injured a small child?? if she had been stood a few inches closer it would have hit her on the head and probably concussed her.
they didn't fill in any accident book or offer any first aid - just ignored us.
should i complain to their head office or just leave it? she has a very light bruise on her shoulder today..
Sharon.

What do you want to achieve from complaining ?
Apology
Payment of medical costs
Something else ?I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
Depends what you want. If you are after some sort of financial compensation then I would complain to head office.
They are notoriously tight though at sports direct so I would be surpised if you get anything off them. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
What was a bag doing on the ceiling?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Just a half decent apology would be nice and to know that they are going to secure the bags properly to stop anyone else getting injured!
They have them on 'view' hanging all around the shop, above all the tall shelves etc. I didn't even notice them until one fell down.0 -

I'd honestly just move on with your life, an apology is only worth something when it is genuine from the heart - some faceless middle-manager of Sports Direct sending you and letter or a brief phone conversation including an empty promise that 'things will change' and so on is really not worth anything.
We can play the 'what might have happened' game all day long and get nowhere, but the fact is your daughter had a bit of a knock that, all things being equal, she shouldn't have received but bags will occasionally fall off shelves in the same way that all minor accidents happen.
This isn't a case of massive negligence on the part of staff or a complete disregard for customer safety but rather a bag presumably working its way off a peg and falling.0 -
while i can sympathise with you for having to calm an upset small child you really need to put this into perspective, its not like a bag (unless its filled with something heavy) will cause anything other than a little temporary discomfort...
yes a little concern from the staff there would be good or at best an apology from head office, one of the main problems with their shops is there is so much stock in there..things get nudged and drop on the floor
trouble is with this country now is people are too quick to jump on the compo bandwagon and just see the big cash payouts
if i were you id move on and stop shopping there if you feel so strong about it0 -
Just to be clear I don't want any money from them, I'm not that desperate.
I'm not talking a little drop off a shelf, the place is a warehouse, so it was more like a 30ft drop, and the bag was a large luggage bag which was bigger than my daughter, so it wasn't light by any means.
But yes, probably best to just forget about it.0 -
Get on the phone & demand to speak to the store manager & tell them exactly what happened - the staff member should have filled in the accident book immediately.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0
