Thanks.. yes the new insurance starts in November.
I am so angry, I put her through the op (hip replacement) so she CAN be off metacam and she CAN run off lead and now I am being told to keep her on metacam and on lead.
6 weeks in the cage, 8 weeks little walks with a sling, further 2 weeks short walks on lead only, 12 week check up with "all fine she can do what she wants now" and then 2 weeks later the limping started and nobody can say WHY and how to stop this.0 -
Unfortunately dogs aren't robots and ops aren't a guaranteed fix. The limp may not even be related to the bad hip! Hope you get to the bottom of it quickly, I bet November can't roll around quick enough.0

Thanks - it is just so weird.. if she had this limp all the time post op I would thik - ok, one of those things perhaps.
But she was absolutely finr for good 2 weeks or so after her 12 week check up, no limping, no "bunny hop" style running, her leg was as good as new.
THAT is why I am so unhappy with how this is all going...0 -

Don't blame you. Something's definitely wrong - a dog doesn't limp for no reason. As krlyr says, it may not even be the hip, but whatever it is, you need a diagnosis and some effective treatment for her.
Surely the vet should be able to provide that? God knows they charge enough!0 -
She may need a scan or more xrays when you take her back in nov. In the mean time I would be very careful about what exercise she gets and dont let her jump on furniture etc.
Whatever is wrong may be made worse by over exercise.0 -
I am only ever going by vet's advice but right now I doubt all and everything....
I just wish there was some kind of answer.
I was planning to use next insurance pot for the other hip replacement but who knows what is wrong with the first leg now and what will we need to do about that...0 -
Very odd that a ortho vet does not know about hips! Its not long til nov so to be on the safe side i would keep her on light exercise for now. The limp may or may not be any thing to do with the op, but i do know you need to be very carefull about what exercise they do after the op. jumping, off lead exercise and long walks should be out for a considerable time.
You could consider a physio or maybe hydrotherapy once you know whats wrong.0 -
I was brushing her today and she diod not like me brushing her lower bak - even more morried now0
