Wow nessie216, the fact that you lost that much for your wedding is amazing! Good luck with quitting smoking too
Men eh? Can't live with them...
I reckon it may be a guilt thing, if we eat rubbish with them then they know we can't say anything.
I swear the true love of his life is Pizza Hut. He would have a large meat loaded pizza every day if I let!
At least with SW there are alternatives for pretty much everything including take aways. It's just those times when you'd rather jab a fork in your eye than cook, that's when the take away menus look so tempting!
So I just read on another site about the differences between "Free Foods" and "Zero Syns Foods". I feel silly, but I didn't really distinguish between the two of them previously.
Edit:
Thanks stef240377, that's really helpful.
We've been doing EE so far as it seemed the best fit for us.
He loves that he can still eat meat, it's how I sold the idea to him lol.Married 23/03/13 :heart2:

I have tried one of those - but i normally go with mugshots as they are more environmentally friendly
and usually on offer!!!
They are a start - but not sure it is exactly picking food!
I know what you mean... something you can just nibble (when you'd normally have crisps or nuts or something).
I would have the mug shots but I hate mushroom with a passion (the chicken has them) and not keen on the othersI do try to recycle though!

Gemmiewho - So I just read on another site about the differences between "Free Foods" and "Zero Syns Foods". I feel silly, but I didn't really distinguish between the two of them previously.
The free foods are the ones like your carbs, proteins and veggies such as peas/sweetcorn. No syn food would be like the homemade scotch eggs or cakes and things like that.
You say you have access to the online system, would it help you to look at a weekly meal plan and take things from there as your HE's are built in or give suggestions to things you could be having.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

With regards to your example I actually agree (I know without OH's help what these ingredients are and do), but with the caveat in isolation - as you can see above I eat a varied diet containing plenty of fruit and veg as well as protein and other carbs, so as a % a Mullerlight is not that much. The key to anything like this is moderation and being sensible, so even though you could technically live on 10 Mullerlights a day you'd be a bit stupid to do that.
Btw, as a scientist I only take my information from papers rather than randoms found by googling, and to quote from one from 2004: "The etiology of cholesterol gallstone disease is multifactorial with interaction between genome and environment" - so some people will get them and some won't no matter what their diet, and "Intake of high energy, simple sugar and saturated fat favors gallstone formation. Fiber and moderate consumption of alcohol reduce the risk" - the SW plan is fairly low energy, low fat, low alcohol and high fibre, which is easily enough to outweigh a reasonable small sugar consumption.
I know you're right but I can't resist a scientific debate, especially with someone who appears to know everything!
I too read journals and slightly later than yours This is from http://gut.bmj.com/content/54/6/823.abstract
Results: During 12 years of follow up, we documented 1810 new cases of symptomatic gall stones. After adjusting for age and other known or suspected risk factors in multivariate models, the relative risk (RR) for the highest compared with the lowest quintile of carbohydrate intake was 1.59 (95% confidence interval (CI) 1.25, 2.02; p for trend = 0.002). The RR for the highest compared with the lowest quintile of dietary glycaemic load was 1.50 (95% CI 1.20, 1.88; p for trend = 0.0008), and 1.18 for dietary glycaemic index (95% CI 1.01, 1.39; p for trend = 0.04). Independent positive associations were also seen for intakes of starch, sucrose, and fructose.
Conclusions: Our findings suggest that a high intake of carbohydrate, glycaemic load, and glycaemic index increases the risk of symptomatic gall stone disease in men. These results add to the concern that low fat high carbohydrate diets may not be an optimal dietary recommendation.Who I am is not important. What I do is.0 -

graduated yesterday (all the hard work paid off with a 2:1!!!)
Many congratulations:T with a bit of Body Magic thrown in!Hi everyone,
Hope you don't mind me joining in?
Not at all, you're very welcome. Just keep asking anything you want. Posting menus/food diaries often helps. You might like to try this Nigella recipe

for a mix of meat and pizza thrown together. I reckon it could be very low syn if you have the cheese as a HEX.Im going to be honest.

No need to feel left out. We certainly don't judge people by the length of posts on here. More importantly we don't judge people at all!! What's wrong with short and sweet? (Except that sweet usually means syns:()
I went shopping in Tesco today. Not my usual haunt but needed to stock up on Branston beans and they had the best price. I picked up one of their in-store magazines and there's a yummy recipe for roasted peppers, butternut squash and red onions in harissa paste serve with couscous and a side of minty yogurt. It looks delish and I've worked out it's absolutely free!! Must give it a try. This is the link

maman, the thing was a BRUTE, at that time of the morning it felt like a small child. the grossest of things though were those two piddly feeler bits (not the legs) near the front of its head. _pale_ could have cried!! :rotfl:
Yes we had two of those last week, awful, is there a thread on here anywhere about keeping them out of your house!! Do conkers really work????
Anyway back to Slimming World, was told at group that the Mugshots sold at B&M and Wilkinsons are not free, even though made by same people, as made with cheaper ingredients so would have syn values, in the bin with those bargains then!0 -

Curry sauce (scroll down page) I just chucked in a load of chicken/veg and added the yoghurt right before serving.
Pakoras (FREE)
2 large white potatoes, cooked and mashed to a firm consistency with no butter or milk
1 red onion, diced
½ large bag of frozen chopped vegetable mix (sweetcorn, broccoli, carrot, cauliflower)
2 tbsp curry powder (use mild, medium or hot to suit your own taste)
3-4 tbsp fat free yogurt
1 egg, beaten
Fry Light
1. Pre heat the oven to 200°C/Gas 6. Place the mashed potato, diced onion and defrosted vegetables into a bowl and combine thoroughly.
2. Stir the curry powder into the yogurt and add this to the vegetable mix and stir thoroughly.
3. Beat the egg and add it to the mixture, stirring constantly. The mix should still be quite firm, but if it's too runny add more vegetables.
4. Line a baking tray/wire rack with baking paper to prevent the pakoras from sticking, and spoon the mixture onto the tray in tablespoon sized ''dollops''.
5. Spray with Fry Light and bake for approximately 30-40 minutes - or until firm on the outside and golden brown
6. Allow to cool slightly so that the pakoras firm up.
Samosas (1 syn each)
One calorie cooking spray
1 tbsp mild curry powder
1 tsp amchoor (dried mango powder) (I used lime juice)
397g/14oz potatoes, peeled, boiled and mashed
113g/4oz frozen peas
4 tbsp finely chopped coriander
1 red chilli, deseeded and finely chopped
salt
3 jumbo filo pastry sheets (50cm x 24cm)
For the chutney
113g/4oz fresh coriander and
57g/2oz fresh mint, finely chopped
1 tsp peeled and finely grated ginger and
2 green chillies, deseeded and finely chopped
Juice of 2 limes
2 tsp sea salt and ¼ tsp artificial sweetener
1. Place all the chutney ingredients in a food processor with 71ml/2½ fl oz of water and blend until smooth. Set aside until needed.
2. Spray a large non-stick frying pan with low calorie cooking spray and place over a medium heat. Add the curry powder, amchoor, potatoes and peas and stir-fry for 4-5 minutes. Remove from the heat and add the chopped coriander and red chilli, season well with salt and set aside.
3. Preheat the oven to 190°C/Gas 5. Line a large baking sheet with baking parchment. Working swiftly, place the three filo sheets on top of each other and cut them in half widthways. Then cut each half into three even strips lengthways to give you a total of six strips of filo per sheet (18 strips in total).
4. Lay the strips on a clean work surface and lightly spray with low calorie cooking spray. Place a teaspoon of the potato filling at the bottom of each strip and fold the pastry diagonally to enclose the filling and form a triangle. Press down on the pastry and fold again until you reach the end of the strip leaving you with a triangular pastry parcel. Repeat with the remaining strips and filling to make 18 parcels.
5. Place the parcels in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, spray with low calorie cooking spray and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden and crisp. Remove from the oven and serve warm with the hara chutney.
oooh going to have to try these whilst the boy is away with GB in a couple of weeks! He hates currys etc but I love the milder ones and love pakoras even more!
Think that for that week going to try and get him to take me to ASDA to stock up on a few bits as we only have pricey convenience stores in our teeny town centre.
Anyhoo, 1lb off for me last night despite a Chinese buffet, a wedding and a full meal at pizza hut!!! So happy that this is a plan that works even on a tough week :j
next aim is to get below 12stone before the week he goes away, that gives me three weeks but one of those we are on holiday and I have 5.5lb to lose! I know I can do that and more so hey ho lets go!
Well done to all the other losers and we are nearly at the end of another week - soon a whole new week of SW amazingness will begin!
Where You Working we've been told the opposite in group :S we were told that the ones in the cheaper shops would be free still but the ones in the supermarkets won't be as they are the new 'recipe' *confused*************************************
