wow cant believe its Friday again... how are you all doing ?
Had a few problems coping with the side effects of my meds when I got back at work this week and had to go back to the doc again. She is taking me off these pills but I have to reduce slowly and then transfer onto a new drug which is meant to be more effective in lower doses so hopefully not so many side effects.
DS is 18 tomorrow, so we will be celebrating over the weekend, other than that more washing and housework ..... I phoned tax credits and child benefit today to let them know its his last day in f/t education as he starts work on Monday. The good news is child benefit pay an extra 10 days to 17 June.... not a fortune but every little helps !

Happy birthday to DS Skint!
Weighed this morning and have lost 2 more lbs!:j:j I've made no real "diet" effort, I'm just not thinking much about food these days. I eat a breakfast bar in the morning (as I have always done), usually 4 pieces of fruit for lunch and something as an evening meal and seem to have cut out snacks without trying to. I'm now just 1/2lb to 1lb off my lowest ever weight again.
I wore a suit dress that I bought ages ago yesterday (with a matching jacket) and have only worn once before and I actually looked slim - caught a glimpse of myself in a mirror while in work and had to look again as it actually looked ok!
I didn't have much planned for today but The Fling rang today to ask if I wanted to see him this afternoon (he's out tonight with a friend) so that's something to look forward to.
Got a few things to do too - mowing the back "lawn", tidying round the garden, food shopping, bit of laundry and mayve a teeny bit of DIY if the sun doesn't come out. If it does I'll be found flopped in the back garden topping up the tan.:)
Hope everyone gets some good weather and enjoys the weekend.0 -
Hey WW
Just watching Watchdog with Anne R.
Just reminded me of your talk about Botox ... FGS - DONT DO IT !!

TFI Friday !! Hope you've all had a good week. Its been blooming freezing here ... glad to see some sun this afternoon
Had a lovely meal out for DS birthday and went out for lunch with friends on Monday... am now skint for rest of month !! He started work on Monday and looked very smart in shirt and tie, bless him
Quote came in from a company the neighbour had round for work on roof .... total with scaffolding and vat £1656  to be shared with neighbours but still £828 each
I spoke to a friend and she mentioned her B-in-Law is a roofer so he has now given me a quote of £600 with no scaffolding. £300 each!! Have passed details to neighbours who didn't like the sound of it
they liked the chap who gave them a quote .... they are going to think about it. Don't know what to do now. Don't know if friends B-in-L is reliable or what his work is like.... but £828 or £300 !
Some good news, work have agreed to make my change of hours permanent. Still same weekly hours but over 4 mornings which is suiting me much better.
Hoping for some good weather this weekend, would be good to get out and about.

Hiya Skint
Might sound a bit of an odd question but is it work at the front or the back of the house and will the roofer be able to be seen by passers by if you live on a road with passing traffic?
My understanding is that for health and safety reasons now scaffolding has to be erected for doing work on a roof? If the roofer can be seen doing work without it he could get into trouble/prosecuted.
Dont take this as gospel and I dont blame you trying to get it done cheaper but could be wise to check it out. Maybe if the onus is on the builder to comply that means you are no way responsible and its up to him? Not sure ....
Good news about your work hours - Ive been off work this week and spent far too much money!
Take care all x0 -

 eek !! It was the roofers suggestion that he didn't think he would need scaffolding. The chimneys are being removed front and back so they would be bringing bricks down the front of the house. I phoned council and don't need planning or building regs and they mentioned party wall legislation, but no mention of scaffolding... will have to do some investigation/ googling !!

Morning all!
Skint I must admit I'm clueless with building regs etc and can't give any advice I'm afraid. Hope it all goes well for you and doesn't end up costing a bomb.
Had a busy week at work - the exams are now over thankfully apart from one resit next week and so things are starting to calm down a bit. The Fling is still going well - we're off out for a night on the town tonight so will have to get glammed up later. I'm going to wear a dress I bought ages ago - its a wine coloured satin off the shoulder number that looks very slinky if I say so myself! Tried it on again this morning to make sure it still fits and it looks quite nice with the tan that I have now. Will do a defuzz, nails etc later to make sure I'm as presentable as possible.
Might pop out for some new shoes - I have some that would do but new shoes are always nice - thinking high strappy nude coloured sandal type shoes. Will be able to wear them with other things.
Other than that its food shopping, cleaning and general weekend chores with plenty of dog walking thrown in for good measure.
Hope everyone has a good weekend xx0 -
Hey Skint
Any news on the roof situation?
WW - how did your night out on the town go?
Ive got a busy few weeks planned my social life has defo picked up lately!!
Talk soon

Hiya Sanch.... sounds like you are getting a grip on the socialising ! I'm skint until payday after DS's 18th this month, but a friend came round last night and brought a bottle of wine so it would have been rude not to have a glass

New medication is helping with foot/leg pain but making me feel drowsy/tired. Cant drive after taking them so not getting out and about as much as I would like, but as they are short term I've got my fingers crossed that they work. Had physio on Monday and she said if no improvement by next time she sees me she will refer me to spinal specialist.
re the roof.....I posted the question about scaffolding on the "In my home" forum and the results were mixed. There do seem to be regulations covering employers and the self employed on the HSE website, but it suggests that the home occupier has no responsibility for workplace safety. So it seems to be up to the builder/roofer whether he complies with H&S but both me and the neighbour are a bit concerned in case there is an accident/anything dropped on passing pedestrians / nearby parked cars etc. I left the details with the neighbour to think about and my friends B-in-L is on holiday this week so no further news yet.
WW did you manage to get new shoes? Could do with a bit of retail therapy myself but will have to resist temptation

Hiya Skint
I checked out your thread re the scaffolding. Didnt know you were a bloke hee hee ... yeah you are right some mixed comments.
Know what you mean about feeling drowsy after taking meds, my hayfever stuff always makes me feel like that even the non-drowsy. Hope you start feeling better soon.
Got a meal out tonight with family and going on a bike ride tomorrow with a new group. Picking up my new bike on Monday too. Expensive but will be putting it on credit card - not very MSE I know but it is 0% and I will defo pay if off before the 15 month period ends. Been thinking about a new one for 12 months now so its not an impulse purchase.
WW you are very quiet, you okay out there?
