if you need tailoring on a budget, I'd recommend you check out H&M, dorothy perkins and new look, you should easily be able to get a new outfit for less than £100. Wears and washes well until you can afford something more upmarket, if that is your taste. I can understand that with your fitness regime being ongoing you may not want to spend a fortune at the mo until you reach a size you are happy with.

If you have a next outlet near you you often get great bargains there too.

we're fortunate that our dress code only goes as far as formal, no suit stipulations here.

  • Hallo!
Just saw your thread by accident so have read it through, you sound like me - live on my own, divorced, got a lovely dog, into money saving .... Im determined to get back into exercise up until the end of November I was very fit, love cycling, walking and had started doing a bit of running. Then it all went by the wayside ... got some kind of virus and a few things went wrong so all that stuff went out of the window.

So, Im going to make an effort and reading your thread has spurred me on so thanks! :)

Ive seen the £1 walks and think Im going to do that, I used to be in Spice and did some good things and met some really nice people - we may even have met on an event (!) but Im too far out of way to make it worthwhile. Plus Im in the Ramblers so going to get back into that. Cycling is my thing really so cant wait for better weather for that too. All good stuff.

    I will keep reading .... :)

Well, school was open as normal today despite a fresh covering of snow last night and it snowing all morning.
Oh well, at least I don't have to reschedule lessons and play catch up. Lots of other fairly local schools were shut though.

Wore the new suit today and got a few compliments so it must look ok. Bargain!

Sanchsoot - spooky! Wonder if we have actually met at some point?

Had a NSD today so just 3 more to try to get for the target of 10 this month - its only the 21st so there's still plenty of time (in theory!).

Another bonkers week at work! Will it ever end???
I love my job but its just one thing after another lately. Mr Gove has a lot to answer for - not my favourite person! I don't think he understands how hard teachers work - a full day teaching, endless marking and planning, changes to curriculums and exams all the time, pay cuts threatened and never ending meetings and hoops to jump through :mad::mad:

Anyway, its the weekend and at I'm going to have at least one day off work from the books.

Its snowing again here! Quite a blizzard - it waited until I got home from work and then started chucking it down - typical!

Going to have a quiet night in - don't want to go anywhere in this weather anyway.

Its been so busy lately that I'm looking forward to a bit of a rest tomorrow - but a woman's work is never done so the shopping, cleaning and laundry still need to be done :o

Need to have a look at the finances this weekend too - make sure I'm not going bonkers with the little spends. Feel like I'm spending lot of small amounts - that needs to get reined in a bit.
  • Hi WW
Yes I agree with you the Civil service is the same, its very hard work, people in the private sector think you have it made but it's not the case at all!

Im lucky in that I only work 4 days, Monday's off thank goodness but irs still a struggle to fit everything in with shopping, cleaning, garden, all the other things to do with the house, the dog, hobbies, seeing friends, exercise, keeping your finances on track etc. Its just one mad whirl.

Put your feet up this weekend - Im going to have a "Me day" tomorrow I think and give my wardrobe a good sort out, maybe with a glass of wine ! Need to throw some stuff away (the stuff with holes in anyhow!) some for charity shop and maybe some for Ebay. Sooner I make a start .............!

Sanchsoot - I could do with a me day too. Some nice food, a bit of exercise and a glass of wine - sounds like heaven but somehow things always seem to get in the way.

I've done a bit of a food stock take and I seem to have plenty for main meals for next week - just need to get things for packed lunches and some dog food as far as I can tell.
Good job really as I've been doing a bit of silly spending this week - not oodles of cash but £5 here, £10 there, bits for school - it all adds up. Having a low cost grocery week will help to balance it out a bit.

Need to pop to the bank tomorrow to pay some cheques in and then on to the library so will do the shopping at Aldi and the small Sainsburys to save the trek to Tesco.
Will do my best to resist unnecessary spending - famous last words.;)

Just back from the shops and managed to do the grocery shopping for £19 - that included some personal care bits and pieces so not too bad I suppose. It has taken me £12 over budget for January but I was fairly close for a 5 week month.
I'll join in the February grocery challenge again - this time for £120 (a 4 week month for me) - the first shopping trip will be next weekend.

Finally got to the bank to pay in the dog insurance cheque and a £50 cheque from NPower. The insurance money went straight off the credit card and the £50 has been divided up - £20 into the bedroom savings fund, £20 into the holiday fund and £10 for me! Bought a Subway on the way home for a little treat and a few yummy bits in the penny sale in Holland and Barratts - 4 things for £2.70 ish.
That means that I've saved £180 so far in January - I still want to add a bit to that - certainly to get up to £200 but £250 would be brilliant.

Got an unexpected compliment in Aldi today - a lady called me "lovely and slim" after I squeezed between 2 trollies - silly that a few words from a stranger can make your day but it did! I've been so busy that exercise and food have been somewhat neglected and I feel a bit run down so its given me a bit of a boost to get back on track.

Right, the house is desperate for a good clean and then the dog needs walking again, not fun in the slippery slushy snow and ice. Better get on with it...

    :hello:

WW - Just dropped in to see how you are doing with the new budgeting regime.

:T:T on the £180 saved this month.

I definitely need to pull in my horns now. The house move has made quite a dent in my coffers. Need to take some serious action.......:rotfl:
