no joy on the snow day front WW?
hope you feel better soonknow thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
Not much in the way of snow here - although it is trying again now so who knows?
My family are in South Wales and they've had 9 inches according to my mum and they live in a hilly area so its quite treacherous there by all accounts.
Hope you're safe and warm Pavlov?
Dog has been to the park and I've popped to the shops and picked up a dress and jacket suit for work for £30 in the sales - tried it on and it looks quite good, was surprised at how much thinner I looked in the changing room mirror - a good thing but I did look pasty and pale and full of cold, so not exactly glam today.
Lots of schoolwork to do today - all fiddly little jobs so I think I'll do them in short bursts between Lemsips!
Will cook a nice warming tea - maybe quorn sausages, roast potatoes and veg in a big yorkshire pudding - will have to check if I have gravy granules first though, can't be bothered to go all the way to the shops just for that.
Right, going to have a nice hot bath and a sit down before I start the school stuff.0 -

I'm coastal so we've not had as much in the way of snow as some parts of Wales, but wind chill means the warmest temperature forecast for my area over past 3 days has been -4  as a result what little snow we do have is frozen solid.
Just seen pictures of the school site in facebook. It currently looks very unlikely that they'll be able to open the site tomorrow, it is like an ice rink. Trying not to raise my hopes but it does look very likely that I'll be working from home again tomorrow ('luckily' I had the foresight to bring home a mountain of books and assessments to mark. And should I finish them I have two class sets of reports to write by Friday so I shan't want for things to do)!
Hope the hot bath works its magic :beer:know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -

Hello fellow Welshies!
I'm in exile but my heart is still in Glamorgan!
Pavlov - just working from home (even though you're still marking etc) is a treat though isn't it? Bit of Loose Women and Dickenson's Real Deals make the books go faster somehow!:rotfl:
Done all the schoolwork so I'm ready for the week - have a pile of controlled assessments to mark but they're not really urgent.
Tea is in the oven, done the cleaning and laundry and the dog has been walked again (to get gravy;)) so quite a productive day I suppose.
Going to have a flop on the sofa and watch Call the Midwife and Ripper Street with another Lemsip - rock and roll!0 -
Hi WW .... hope everyone with loads of snow is keeping safe and warm
What amuses me is that when we were young (and my mum says the same) there was vary rarely a day that the schools were closed due to snow / ice etc .... don't know why it's so different now when we've got (supposedly) so much better equipment to deal with it!
I appreciate that teachers that work at schools away from where they live might not be able to get there - but surely they could go to the local school (which is often within a reasonable walking distance) - sure the lessons might not be "normal" but at least it would let the kids be in school .... and let the parents get to their own workplaces (rather than many of them having to take the day off - often unpaid) .....
Sorry .....:o
Well done to the suit in the sales :T and 26lbs lost if fab (that's about what I've put on since I've been on my new meds :() - hey ho!

the only schools within walking distance of my house are primaries. One day there and I think I'd be ready for retirement
I can empathise with where you are coming from RFTA, but teaching is much more than babysitting, which is all we would essentially be doing in a strange school with strange(r)children. Not to mention that primary and secondary are completely different specialisms. Give me a room full of gobby hormonal teenagers over clingy little people any day of the week!
Some Scrooge has had the caretaking staff out in the freezing cold trying to shift all the ice, so it looks like I will be at the chalk face tomorrow after all. Was looking forward to a day to blitz the marking but if it isn't to be, then it isn't to beknow thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
I'm in school too - there's virtually nothing left on the ground here now.
Just had a trying on session of my work clothes (we have to wear suits) and I'm a mixture of gutted and chuffed to bits. Gutted because 5 perfectly good suits have to go to the charity shop as they're way too big - even with belts they look like clown trousers
Now I'm chuffed to have lost weight but just don't have the money to buy loads of new clothes at the moment. I've bought a few things as I've gone along but the dress I bought today which fits well and makes me look slimmer and is comfortable has really brought home how unflattering some of my clothes are - unfitted and just bleuurrghhh!
I need to win a £1000 voucher for a shopping centre and pronto.:rotfl:0 -
