Ruth, sorry the outcome of today wasn't as you hoped. Fingers crossed the NHS don't take too long. Congrats on the weightloss :j
Emma, that owl looks stunning now its framed. You chosse the right frame/mount for him.
Ails, love charlie. I would think 'charlies first christmas 2012' would be nice. No idea on how/where to stitch it too. Sorry0 -
sending you big hugs ruth x13 in 2013 challenge 9/130

Sk00bie - love those decorations especially the angel that you have left to do. I did a Mill Hill Notcracker some years ago, must find it out and display it at Christmas.
Ruth - so sorry that you has such a wasted day today. If the consultant hasn't said no only to have the operation in an NHS hospital isn't there an option for the consultant you have seen today to operate in the NHS hospital. Might be worth calling his secretary and asking. Congratulations on your weight loss I know how hard it is to lose weight.
Thank you all for your comments about the wording on Charlie Bear. I'm definately going to stitch something. Thing I might print off a couple of photos of him and add various text to them to see which I prefer.Cross Stitch Cafe Member #59 :j

I am thinkng of joining you all with the new challenge 10.11.12 - 11.12.13. I have found a chart online but want to price up/purchase some fabric. However I can't understand the listing
Can anyone help?
It calls for 28 HPI linen or fabric. Does that mean 28 count? Does the higher number mean smaller holes?
Many thanks :T0 -
Hi everyone, I am new to cross stitching and would appreciate your experience and advice as it seems you are all professionals! I would really like to start on the circus alphabet by Emily Peacock. I noticed these charts were given free with Cross Stitcher magazine and wondered if anyone has these and could be so kind to email the charts to me? I would be very very grateful indeed. Even though they were free, people are asking for quite a bit of money for them on eBay which is just wrong. Please let me know if that is possible and I will message again with my email address! I am so excited to get cracking!! Thanks a million! Minimiss0

unfortunatly minimiss due to copyright issues it would be illegal for anyone to e-mail these to you. Unfortunatly you will need to buy them like everyone else.
Sadly that may mean paying e-bay prices.
If artists wanted their work distributed around they would place it in the public domain for anyone to download as necessary. You may believe they were 'free' in magazines but stitchers had to pay for those magazines who in turn paid the designer.loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0 -
Here is my little owl all framed. Picked up a mount for 50p and the frame for £6.00 from my local framers and did it myself.
Got the christmas ornaments book from Sewandso today but not had chance to have a look yet. Also picked up Cross Stitcher too but no time to look at that either!!
Emma
eeeek thought it was yours on sewandso's facebook page.
Sorry it's not going as well as hoped ruth_honey.loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0 -
I was told it was illegal for people to sell them on eBay as they were provided free in a magazine and cannot be resold. I had seen threads on this forum where people had emailed them to each other for free and thought sharing amongst friends was not illegal. I guess those people shouldn't have been sharing either then.0

Minimiss - as far as I'm aware it's OK for someone to sell pages cut from a magazine, but it's not OK to sell photocopies or electronic copies. As was stated before 'included in a magazine' is not the same as 'free'.
As for your comment about 'sharing between friends', that's not exactly relevant here yet is it? You've appeared in our forum and the first thing you've said is that you want us to send you charts because you don't like the idea of paying the asking price for them. The second thing you've said is that you object to our refusal. So far I'm not seeing any friendship.
You will see some swapping of charts in past threads/pages, some of that was illegal and no longer happens, some of it is people taking a risk for a friend. Either way, it doesn't give you a right to demand free charts.
Someone may contact you by PM and offer these charts to you (because we're nice people really). If they do then they are breaking the law to do you a favour and should be profusely thanked. If they don't then you still don't have any right to ask again until you have made friends with us all.0 -

Yes it probably is illegal. My understanding was that whole maagazines were fine to be sold on e^ay but individual charts were a no no. There was an article in a cross stitch mag I read a few months back and it mentioned that when the magazine is published copyright sits with the magazine but they only hold it for a very short time before it passes back to the designer.
Do you subscribe to cross stitcher magazine - they used to feature the Emily Peacock charts on line and as a subscriber by signing up for their Craft Circle membership (free for subscribers) you could download them for free.
I think this applied to Cross Stitcher mag or their sister mags for example I used to be able to download knitting patterns when I don't subscribe to their knitting mag so I suspect if you subscribe to Simply Knitting (may be wrong on this title) you would also have the option to get the charts - although of course they may have stopped making them available now. Being a subscriber does have its small advantages - bonus charts in mags and extra content (usually available on line) certainly for the mags provided by Future Publishing (publishers of Cross Stitcher).0
