Hi Alisb It's a chart that someone designed and posted on their blog for anyone to use. Someone had then pinned the original link onto their Pinterest board and I came across it. I just followed the link back to the woman's blog, so no there shouldn't be a problem using it. I'm sure there not all like this though so it's probably best to see where the chart came from and if it's copyright free.
    Hope that helps/makes sense! x

    Hi ladies.

    Nmm. Nice update.

Soulie. Glad treatment is going well.

Ailsb. Nice finishes, the owl is cute!

Winnie. I have only ever done small pieces 'in hand' and found 2 problems. 1) I seem to get cramp quite quickly in the hand holding the fabric and 2) I have to be careful how much tension I put on the thread when doing each stitch because it's much easier to distort the fabric when stitching 'in hand'.
Since getting my frames I find stitching to be much more enjoyable and think I have now been spoilt as I wouldn't want to be without a frame of some sort :)

Julie. Very nice hearts, really like them.
:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:

Just a quick question a friend of mine (who has been stitching for over 30yrs) has stitched a beautiful huge hogwarts. Shes stitched it in hand with no frame. I have a large one to do next.

Is it easy to stitch in hand?

I think it is a matter of personal preference. It's easier to maintain the correct tension if using a frame. Personally I use both methods but for larger pieces especially anything which has beads or speciality stitches I use a frame.
And generally speaking I find it easier to stitch on aida with a frame and in hand when stitching on linen.
  • thanks Ailsb (and whoever mentioned it on the other thread that I've missed :D

Hubby woke me up at 6am - just what I wanted after being up at 5.30am the day before with DS2 :mad:
Kids then followed suit and (feeling like death walmed up with my cold) I got the kids talking at me while he went out to get me flowers (personally I'd have preferred an 8am lie in :rotfl:)

Hubby got me my stitchy bag to keep my most current project in and (actually listened to me for once) and got me a roatating frame. It's still too wide so gotta try and tack stitch it tonight along 2 sides to make it temporarily a bit thiner then stitch it to the frame :j:j

My mummy took me (and the kids) to Nottingham for lunch and a trip to the range (cause we don't have one). and bought me lots of nice things for my kitchen. Tomorrow we are going to whizz to Leeds to the butterfly house and Ikea. Also taking advantage of her car and picking up DS2's birthday pressie.
He's still gone to the pub tonight tho!!!

Just dusted off the 'teachers' box set off the shelf so I think I'm gonna have a marathon watching session......... ohhh I wonder if you can download Queer as Folk I miss that (goes off to nosy). GRRRRRRR the 'teachers' box set is empty I am guessing they are in the big DVD wallett and I CBA'd to go and sort through that. can't find QasF on a download. So Hotel Transylvania it is.......PS3 doesn't want to play that.

right sky box and choccywoccydoodaa - that can't go wrong...................................can it?

    Happy belated birthday

    Hi Everyone,

I've been a bit of a lurker of late, but I have been keeping up with everyone's posts. There's been some lovely finishes.
maria- I particularly liked your owls- so cute!

I managed to finish my friends wedding sampler. I'm still to add their names and the date. It's not until July, so there's plenty of time for that. It's one of the pinterest free designs, it stitched up really quick and I enjoyed just doing the one colour.

Hope everyone's keeping well and cosy x

This is lovely and I'm sure your friends will be delighted with such a personal present

I prefer to use a hoop as I like to work with the tension of the fabric though a friend of mine does large samplers without the frame she simply rolls the fabric up as she works onto the next section so I think she has the roll of fabric at one end and the piece shes working on at the other end, must admit I couldn't do it that way but saying that she has done some lovely pieces of work :)

I prefer stitching without a frame, but I don't even roll the fabric, I sort of *cringe* scrunch it! I have stitched with frames before on smaller pieces, but for bigger ones I prefer without because I find it easier to push the needle through two holes at once - speeds up the whole thing.

Speaking of big projects, I have an update photo! Only three and a half panels to go and I'm beginning to realise that, when this is done, I want an even bigger project. I am a glutton for ... stitching?

Wow you have made great progress on your Great Wall piece.

I like to use the sewing method as well especially on linen or evenweave.

Have you got anything in mind for your next project?
