Going back to the question asked 2 weeks ago !

I started cross stitch in 1989 and I remember the occasion well.

For some reason my sister bought me a kit from Argos for Christmas 1988, I had no idea what it was. At the end of January I had to go into hospital for an op and I just threw it into my bag to keep me occupied for what turned out to be a 10 day stay. I got such a shock when I opened it and saw that the fabric was blank - had expected the pattern to be printed on so I could just "fill it in" ! The threads weren't sorted and the chart was so big but I persevered and really enjoyed it.

Remarkably I finished it and it now takes pride of place on my living room wall. I've never looked back !

I must take and post a photo.

    Linda xx

here it is, can't believe I did this as my first project, but I suppose I didn't know any better, never having seen any kits before (made up for it since !) :rotfl:

shelly, the whiskers are perfect, my Eric's are similar. Never seen a cat with curved ones.

Thanks! As well as looking at my 2 girls whiskers I admit I looked at google images too. Blimey, some cats have such long ones!
And I like your first cross stitch, really nice.

Tricksie. Hope you have a lovely holiday!

Not started my xmas design yet. Tried to iron out the creases in the fabric yesterday but it didn't make much difference then I got the fabric on the frame ready to go. Whilst the iron was out I thought I'd do a few other bits and by the time I was done it was too late for me to start stitching. I like a good couple of hours when I start something new so I ended up sorting out some Anchor skeins into storage bags.

  • Morning everyone - what a dull and rainy morning it is - I much prefer the bright but cold days we had last week (though I don't like snow)

Shelly Your finished piece is perfect. The new design is very cheery and looks like a fun stitch

Tricksie Hope you have a lovely holiday

Linda Beautiful piece and a real accomplishment for your first time

Has anyone else got or seen this month's Cross Stitch Collection? There is a Joan Elliott design of a Victorian lady on Polstitches hand dyed fabric and normally this would be just my sort of thing and I do like the design but I just think the choice of fabric background is wrong. I love hand dyed fabric but to me this detracts from the design but I can't decide why. Would love to know what anyone else thinks.

Hope everyone has a good weekend which includes some quality stitching time

Evening everyone. Are there any avid Faye Whittaker stitchers on here? I have the 'grandchildren' design and I just can't get on with it and I was wondering if anyone could help me out. It is perfect for my mum as she has 5 grandchildren and the boy/girl split is correct. If someone could stitch just s part of it it might inspire me to finish it myself.

    Thanks
