Evening to all

Not been on here for a while. Finished a few little things - a rose bookmark from WOCS Issue 4(!), some bookmarks and mini cards for the next fair using the mini motifs booklet from Cross Stitcher recently. (piccies on my FB page but sure I can't link to that on here).

GOing to start a Historical Sampler company design for DS's bedroom but wondering what length do I cut my skeins to? Not really done a large scale design that needs full skeins.

Some more great work from everyone. Got my subs copy of WOCS but not had chance to look through it properly yet.

    Take care

  • Evening all,

I would love to join in if that’s okay. Have been following the thread for some time and also reading through the previous threads and have really enjoyed seeing everybody’s stitching. I looked out a UFO which I have had for some years – in fact can’t even remember when I got it but it still has an Argos ticket on it and its called Winnie the Pooh - Pooh’s Picnic Party. Very little of it has been done and although it’s colourful and fun it’s no longer something that I would want to spend time on although that might change if there was somebody to gift it to when finished. I have seen some really lovely charts and have just to decide which one to choose and in the meantime I have been doing some of the small kits from the cross stitch magazines and some little designs from the magazines themselves for cards and bookmarks. I like Joan Elliott’s Mother and Daughter; Lizzie Kate Promise Me; Night before Christmas Sampler; Dimensions A Treasured Time; Dimensions Holy Nativity – all of which I discovered on these threads – have managed to find all of the charts apart from the Holy Nativity one which I’m still working on. Also like the Emily Peacock hug and kiss cushions – so much choice – so little time!

    Happy stitching

    Periwinkle welcome

There are some lovely pictures of finished work and Wip.

Soulie hope things aren't to bad.

I haven't done any stitching yet again really must get some done. Don't seem to have enough time have finished crochet blanket and card for Maria's friend. Also found some other started cards so finished them and did some studying.

    Take care and happy stitching

Just sorted through the cupboard, and narrowed it down to 5 kits and then couldn't decide which one, so sought the opinion of my mother and the next one is this:

    Morning.

Mum20to2boys - sorrry missed saying how nice your somebunnh piece was yesterday.

Nmm - I'm using a galaxy 7"tablet and flicker. I can get the phone tk fliker now (if I remember frkm the last time I tried) but don't know how to highlight the link to copy it to here. Thanks for your offer of help.

JCS1 - nice choice of kit. Is it going to be stitched for yohr mum?

Periwinkle - welcome, looking forward to seeing your pieces, your list sounds really interesting.

I spent ages last night trying to perfect cut work. Luckily I used a piece of fabric I've had years and not my main piece as I've concluded j can't do it. I managed to cut the threads but then when binding the next bit it looks really messy. Think I'll wait to see what other stitches are released in he months to come and substitute the cut work. Don't wang to spoil the piece when its cost quite a lot.

Off to work shortly, see you all later. Have a good stitchy day those that manage it.

I'm doing two Dimension kits at the moment, one has a proper thread sorter, and the newer one has this stupid one where you pull them out, so what I've done is just create holes above where you pull them out, so I can re-attach them easily without having to make my own thread sorter lol

    I really don't like Dimensions kits .........

    Hi everyone!
Sorry still no photo yet. Had to wipe my computer and it took three days to get it back up and running arghhhh
Feeling good, just achy arms, legs, jaw and neck, it seems it starts to wear off just as I am due more chemo lol - session number 3 this friday.
Oh yeah and my hair is falling out now, hope it can hold out a little longer until I get my wig :D

Anyways my copy of WOXS arrived a few days ago so here is my review:

Free Gifts - I like them both, Milton is cute and the bookmark is nice too and could come in very handy.

Not keen on the Milton design and don't agree that it is "great for your first stitch" as they say - too much BABS IMHO. But I do really like the Joan Elliott bookmark

Butterfly and Blooms - I like this. I don't normally like flowers but these are a bit more modern, and I'd like to stitch the butterfly just on it's own too.

Love this design and already it is heading towards the must do list. Would make a lovely cushion centre as well as the framed version

Bring out the Bunting - Not for me.

Cute but would have to be for the right occasion/setting - would make a nice birth sampler especially for a summer baby

Scooters - They are okay, but I don't know anyone I would stitch them for.

I really like the version with 3 scooters but like you I can't think of anyone who would appreciate it

Heart Cushion - I quite like this chart and the fact that it is in one colour is a bonus too.

Like this and also the way they have finished it as a cushion. Am thinking would also look good on raw coloured linen

Subs Xtra - It's not too bad, wouldn't stitch it for myself though and it's better than some of the previous offerings.

I've stitched a similar sentiment (Cinderella is proof that new shoes can change your life) designed by Lizzie Kate and I prefer the version I've done but this is ok and could be perfect for some people I know :D

Spring Window - I quite like this series and would, one day, like to stitch them all.

    Not for me

Farm Motifs - I like them but nothing there I would stitch, looking forward to next month's design library though.

    Agree entirely

Birthday Countdown - Not for me.

I like this but not sure what/who I would stitch it for

Birthday Postcards - Love these and I will be stitching the 'music man' one for my Step-Dad's birthday in November.

Nice designs but too much work for cards which may be discarded after the birthday:eek:

Garden ABC - I like these and they will come in handy for birthday cards.

I agree - would also make nice coasters or patches for the front of a gardener's notebook

Easter Treats - Not for me.

Nor me although I do like the white frame with the 4 apertures

Cupcake of the Month - This one isn't too bad, don't think I would stitch it though. Do we know when this series ends?? It seems to have been going for a year already!

This series seems to be like marmite - many of us on here hate it but there have been quite a few positive letters and comments about it in the magazine

Furry Tales - Still don't like these things.

So all in all a good one this month, just wish they would get rid of Margaret Sherry's notes!

That doesn't bother me but I do dislike the large number of full page ads which are not connected to cross stitch - 6 pages in this issue, 7 if you include the ad for the Crochet magazine although as it is still needlecraft related I don't mind it so much but boat trips and insurance - NO

Next Month - Looks like a good one, I like the look of the little footballer, another HAED chart too! Love Somebunny also and the free gift is a good one also, might stitch that for my Mum as she loves tea. Don't like the hummingbirds thing though.

Oh yeah, I've put down the leopard for a while, got fed up of switching colours lol so I am working on a little Eeyore kit that I got with a Pooh's Watercolour book a while ago from eBay for dirt cheap :D Had to unstitch a little section last night all because I missed one stitch from the above line which caused me to be one out with the rest of it  thankfully it was only about 40 hald cross stitches, and I had realised before I did anymore on it!

Did you all see the advert in WOXS for past impressions, for kit/s of the month with 40% off on page 65? That little monkey is really cute! A good price too, but I really can't justify spending any more money on cross stitch at the moment as other things are more important, so I'm just gonna have to hold out until my birthday in July, you never know there might be an even better kit on offer then lol
    Very :money:thinking

Soulie Hope today is one of your better days.

Thanks for posting the review of WOCS - I always love to read these so I have posted my comments in blue

    Hi ladies.

CharlieRabbit. You so have to get the Tiger finished, it's gorgeous! It looks fantastic already, can't wait to see more progress on it and then the final finished piece.

Bobbi. Fingers crossed the stardrops works and you are able to finish the LL design.

Mumto2boys. The Somebunny piece is lovely!

    Nmm. Nice update.

Brednall. When I have to cut lengths from a skein I usually go for anywhere between 30-40 inches as I stitch using the loop method so when folded the length I work with is half of whatever I have cut.
I usually just cut one lot off at a time rather than cut the whole skein up.

    Perrywinkle. Hi and welcome!

JCS. She's lovely, look forward to updates once you get started.

Not sure if this should be done like Hardanger. You do the stitching first and then cut afterwards. Just a thought as don't know what you're working on.
