    Hi all,

I was a regular poster on this lovely thread until about a year ago when I had to drop out due to an "issue" on another MSE forum. I've bounced back now, ready to punch above my weight if necessary ! (not on this thread of course, you are all lovely gentle people).

For my first post I would like to ask you what you do with left over embroidery threads. I've got hundreds of small bundles which are too good to throw away as I can use them for cards, small projects etc. But they are all sitting higgledy piggledy (sp ? !) in plastic bags at the mo and just getting untidy.

So, I'm looking for some better storage ideas please.

    Thank you

    Linda xx
  • Hi Linda and welcome back, could you store your threads on a thread sorter like you get when you buy a kit? I have some that I store this way then I can see what I have and how much hth x

    Morning all

Thanks for all the hints re keeping my work clean. I have commandeered an old pillowcase for the moment and may try and make myself a bag for future use when I have the time.

Beg, nmn and JCS1 your stitchings are beautiful. Can't wait to see them finished.

Linda - I tend to keep mine on a card which i made with holes in it and write the number next to it so when I start my next project I can see if I have any odd ones to use up first before starting a new thread.

Sweetcarer - hope things get better at work for you.
  • fos - fairy grandmother and angel of summer are really beautiful.

maria - I haven't come across Belle and Boo before - your picture is really lovely. Will have to investigate further. :D My friend has a milestone birthday later in the year (Oct) and I have started to look around for ideas for something to stitch for her. I thought possibly a cushion rather than a picture so any ideas will be greatly appreaciated.

maisie - re storage of the pieces we are working on - I rescued a large zipped plastic bag which came with our new bedding and has been really handy for Sleeping Beauty as its quite a big piece. Had I not found this I would probably have used an old pillowcase too.

nmm - I still want to touch fur on BD :D. Lovely progress.

mumto2boys - looking forward to seeing Somebunny.

JCS1 - Buttercup Farm is coming along great.

ERICS MUM - lovely to see you back in the Cafe. Re the leftover threads - I just keep mine on the bobbins in a plastic storage box. Still got 260 threads DH bought me for christmas still waiting to be put onto bobbins

Louise - hope all is well with you.

Thank you for all your lovely comments on Sleeping Beauty - really enjoying stitching her atm.

Off out today to look around for new fridge freezer. I want one a bit like a tardis - little on outside and huge on inside oh and not too expensive. ;) Have been looking online but I really need to see the inside before I buy one.

Hope you all have a lovely day - it looks gorgeous out but its absolutely freezing bbbrrrrrrrrrr.

Chicky - good luck with DOH and your deadline. Just remember its a self imposed deadline, I'm sure your friend will be thrilled to receive it in a week or so time. Don't stress too much about it.

Off topic - we were bought a 2 night hotel voucher for our anniversary that needs to be used bh 30th April. Can anyone recommend an area to go to (not London- go there quite a bit) which is within 2/3 hours journey from Birmingham. Struggling for ideas this time of year. Its only for the 2 of us so doesn't have to be anyhing to keep a teenager amused.

I’ll post an update pic in the next few days. I’m not far off my deadline – finished the last house so just a half the title and the saying left to go. She WILL have it by the end of the month. Give her time to get unpacked lol.

I love York – plenty to do.

We recently spent a couple of nights in Swindon, there is a big outlet centre there, which was great for Christmas shopping.

I have four of the plastic boxes with all my DMC threads on bobbins and then one more with any anchor left over from kits.

The Yankee Candle outlet shop in Swindon is dangerous (for your bank balance).

Snap – that’s how I now store mine.

Hi everyone no stitching today as yet. Ive still got to order some new threads so project one is on hold for now. But ive just remembered a free kit that came with a magazine for a mothers day bookmark so I think I'll give it a wiz.

Do any of you buy cross stitch magazines?

I have Cross Stitch Card Shop – bought on offer. I think this is now at the end of the trial period and now onto my 3 free ones after they messed up with the ‘freebie’.

I also have cross stitch crazy – bought on offer. Not sure I’ll bother after the subs have run out. They have changed the paper used and it’s horrible. + not a lot I actually want to stitch from either.

Where is everyone. It has been very quiet in here the past few days.

We have finally unpacked our last box, everything has a home and a wee place to live at last.

That’s fab going with a little one around – I moved when I was pregnant with DS1 and it took me a good year before I cleared the last box,

flat eric – Bingo online – tis defiantly the way forward. Ahh you’ve tried that lol.

Sleeping Beauty looks lovely b_e_g, so does BD nmm and Bella and Boo maria I liked those too but no girls to stitch for and don’t like them enough to just ‘stitch’.

JCS1 Buttercup farm is looking good. I find Anchor threads feel thicker and not as silky as DMC.

sweetcarer – hope things do get better with your evil boss.

Right - apparently I have to go and do this thing they call 'work' - apparently it's what I am paid for - BOOOO.
Esp as I am stuffy and full o'cold. sniff sniff winge winge owwy owwy
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:

    Hello again all!

I thought it was about time I gave you an update on the Great Wall (over halfway now!) The image is at the bottom of this page:

Crisis though. For the first time I've run out of one of my colours of thread! Not sure what to do - there's only a tiny bit more that I need so it's not worth buying a whole load, but I don't really want to just fill it in with another colour either :s

    Hi everyone,

2nd lot of chemo went well, eventually. My chemo was supposed to start at 11am and finish and 3pmish, well I didn't get hooked up until 12 and the poison took longer to get pumped through, so it was 5.45pm by the time we left and 6.30pm by the time we got home! So I wasn't too happy about that. Though I did get enough morphine to last me the rest of my chemo! Which is, I think 6 sessions.
Achey arms and legs again, and my hair is starting to fall out, which I'm not too bothered about to be honest.

Anyways I have completed a second cross stitch, but I forgot to take a photo before I sealed it up, it's nothing too grand though, just a free cover kit from WOXS a couple of issues ago, that diary of an edwardian lady or whatever it's called, the pink flowers, anyways I did it for my Aunt's 60th.
I was going to mount it on to a bigger card, but decided against it as I couldn't find my velcro stickers, so left it as it was in the mount so she can put it in to a little frame if she wants to.

Promise I will post a pic of Tigger soon! Maybe tomorrow, depending how I'm feeling.

Sorry I don't have the time to reply to everyone or offer any advice at the moment, but I'm sure you all understand, and everyone's works are looking really lovely!
