ALISB - Cheltenham is lovely a bit like Bath in many ways but less grockels. Or maybe somewhere in the Peak District (Bakewell or Buxton) or maybe somewhere in Wales.

Hoping this year I get more time to interact with all the regulars on here (however daunting that may be - as you all seem to sew and chat with much more ease than me) as I will not be bobbing around on the sea quite so much, though when I have managed to read (firewalls wont let me post if bobbin') the undulating ups and downs and warmth of the cafe have made me laugh and cry so please have a very heart felt thanks for keeping me sane.

Thank you all for taking time to reply and with your suggestions. I shall certainly keep an eye out for and invest in some star drops!! sadly no home bargains near me. Fingers crossed the stains will disappear
*Louise* had a problem with pen marks that wouldn't come out and she found a product that worked wonders, think it was like a oxy powder or something. I'm sure when she's online next she'll remind us all :)

    Thank you nmm.

I've just been pondering overnight whether to try and wash stains out first then finish the kit or finish it then try and wash it?? What does everyone think is best plan of action please?? x
  • I would try and get the stains out first just incase they don't come out. You dont want hours of stitching to find that it want come out. X
I'm trying so hard to be thrifty, but it doesn't come naturally. You lot are an inspiration!

Are the stains going to be covered by stitching, or perhaps by a mount when you have finished it. If so I would be tempted to just finish the kit and not worry about the marks....xx

    Hi ladies.

Laura. Like your finish of the horse in it's stable, it's sweet.

Caroline. I'm not sure I'm going to be much help because sometimes I can go through my stash and wonder what on earth I was thinking when I bought a couple of them and they get put at the bottom of the pile. Next time I go through them though I remember why I loved them when I bought them and I'm happy to have them.
Though I do have one particular kit that has been at the bottom of the pile for so long that I don't think I'll ever want to stitch it, so that one might go.

AM. I hope you continue to feel better and can get some stitching time in.

Maisie. Hope you continue to feel better too.

Bobbi. Some good suggestions for washing already been said and I agree with both winnie and caroline.
If the marks will be covered by stitching and/or a mount I'd leave them. If they won't be covered I'd try to get them out first.
I know that both Louise and Sweetcarer have had luck getting out some real bad stains so if the suggestions already mentioned don't work perhaps you could ask them for help too. I remember sweetcarer getting out rust stains!

    As for me.
No stitching here yet this weekend. Went out shopping yesterday because hubby said the coat he got me for my birthday wasn't enough. All I could find that I wanted was a fold away stepping stool for the kitchen :rotfl: I'm a shorty and reaching into high cupboards is a pain!
We had a lovely Chinese for tea and I was slightly disappointed to only be able to manage a small slice of birthday cake :D
Hope to get some stitching in later today.

  • Well today is yet another day of cleaning. While doing it yesterday we managed to throw out another three black bags of just junk. Hubby had 23 USB leads and 18 pairs of headphones which he insisted he needed...Managed to get him to throw out most of them...lol

So we are going to have another cleaning day today, must say I am enjoying being so ruthless. I have allowed myself two tubs of things which I want to keep. I can only keep what fits in these tubs and the lids must go on them properly...I had kept most of Jaxon's clothes and bits, so went through them yesterday and cut squares out of some of them which I will use as material to make a patchwork quilt. I only really kept the important bits (or truly expensive pieces...lol).

I am stunned at just how much c rap we have kept thinking that it might come in useful...think there is a thin line between thrifty and hoarding..and I don't want to hoard...My Nanny always said Tidy House, Tidy Mind....well my mind is slowly going from cluttered to tidy....lol
    ;)I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY;)
  • Can you come and do my house please

    ** off topic **

Caroline. You say you threw away what you considered to be junk but have you thought of doing a carboot once the warmer weather gets here?
I think it was last year (or maybe the year before) that we threw away alot of what was junk to us but still in good condition, it was stuff we just had no use for anymore/didn't want. When it came to larger items hubby decided to try them on a carboot and we made over £100!
Looking at other stalls, people were selling things in much worse condition that what we had previously thrown away, we were amazed and wished we had kept it all!
We are now keeping things we would have previously chucked. They are stored in the garage and come summer time we will try a couple of car boots again. We have said that items will go to no more than 3 carboots and if they haven't sold by the 3rd time they are then binned.

I'll be honest and say I really didn't want to do the first one, I don't like carboots at the best of times but was pleased when the money started coming in :D

We won't become millionaires but it's a nice feeling to know that not only has your unwanted item now got a new home but you made some cash that you otherwise wouldn't have made.

  • Hi Shelly.

The stuff we threw out yesterday really was junk...old cards, letters, bits of things...lol

I ebay everything, try it on ebay three times too and then my Dad takes it to a boot sale a few times and then charity shop...
