I want to finish my current cross stitch first but I was wondering about tapestry after. Is it hard to master?

the tapestry's ive done were pretty easy they were printed on the canvas and one was half cross stitches the other was long stitches so they come together pretty quickly. im thinking of the wool type.

If you are thinking of wool on canvas then the main thing to master is the tension as canvas distorts - a frame is essential for anything over a few inches. Using basketweave stitch or full cross stitches instead of half cross stitch reduces canvas distortion but takes a lot more wool so most kits don't have enough for this.

Most "tapestries" have the design printed on them although there are some which have charts and blank canvas although these usually use different stitches. So if you are doing half cross stitch on printed canvas it is very easy. And of course there isn't any backstitch of the BABS variety or any other :rotfl:

Is this the sort of thing you are thinking of?

I would say that generally tapestry kits are more expensive than cross stitch and also take longer to finish because you have to cover every inch of the canvas and wool is more expensive than cotton. They do make nice cushions though.

What sort of thing did you have in mind?

Just popped on quickly before starting to tidy my craft room which became a dumping ground over Christmas so may take a week to clear.

Louise - yojr HAED is looking really good, I do admire the fact that you can stick at such large projects.

Subtle - thanks For he heads ul about crossstitchers.co.uk. have ordered the Westie cushion kit that I wanted for my mil, its the cheapest I've seen anywhere at such£15.98 inc p&p.

Mistyblue - you're lucky to have afriend that can make frames, I'm sure it will make the stitching quicker on your horse.

FOS - love the Lets Sew, its still on my to do list will have to get the chart once I finish spending on gifts for others. Might ask for it for mothers day.

    BEG - happy belated birthday.

Chicky - your dictionary of homes is coming along great. I'm sure you'll have it finished in time, I always find I speed up when a deadline is looming.

L&M - wow, how quickly did you manage the bear! I think I've reached the conclusionnthat I am a very slow stitcher.

For those that asked the chart for the eye was an Alessandra Adelaide Needlework (AAN) design which I got from America through a seller on ebay. It was really dear (well I think it was) £14ish inc p&p, but I fell in love with the design. I'm thinking of selling it on ebay to recoup some of the costs but I'm a bit hesitant as I've not sold a chart on its own before. Will have a think, can't see me stitching it again though.

Also, once I've done the bedroom/craftroom I am thinking of getting rid kf some of my old magazines that I will never get round to stitching anything from. I might try to ebay them or I could put a list on here but would need to cover postage costs. Will have a think.

Must go now cleaning is shouting at me.

I've sold a lot of charts, kits and magazines over the years - I think it is a great way of reducing stash clutter as well as being very :money: I am trying not to add to my stash as I am a fully paid up member of SABLE (Stash Accumulated Beyond Life Expectancy) but I have allowed myself the flexibility to use any proceeds from stash sales if I see something I can't live without. You are welcome to have my ORIGINAL copy of Let's Sew when I have finished with it - I had hoped to finish on Sunday but still got a little bit left. PM me if you would like it.

Great to hear that you have found the Westie cushion at a good price - it's a really cute design (inevitable though with such a cute subject)

I'll keep all the days free until you know when you're moving. :)

Flowers-thanks for the info on the shows. Very useful. It's not fun when it's so busy you can barely move. I tend to get a bit antsy then and find somewhere quiet to sit down and destress. Maybe if the workshops are morning/lunchtime ones, then we could do those first, have something to eat & do the shopping when it quietens down. Haven't got anything in mind that I *need* to buy, but I don't think I've ever come away from a show empty handed. I wonder if The Nimble Thimble are going to be there? Love that shop.

Nice update pics. The fabric works very well with that design. Can't say I remember having issues with DMC variations. Try using shorter lengths, maybe?

I can't remember which show you are going to but most of them list the workshops and the exhibitors on their website.

I've never been to The Nimble Thimble shop but I have bought (lots) from them at a show - there were so many unusual things including wooden frames and US charts that I spent almost all of my budget for the show at their stand. But they didn't come back the following year :( I've bought a couple of my Lizzie Kate alphabet chart packs from them by calling them - I wish they had a website (on second thoughts I'm glad they don't as I am trying not to add to my stash :D )

Good suggestion re shorter lengths. Piece is almost finished now - only one word to complete
  • both valentine bunny and teddy look beautiful, im sure whoever recieves them will be delighted
