Right - home early due to snow so going to do a quick whizz round with the hoover then settle down with some stitching :j
Quick question for everyone - olds have offered to get me a year's cross stitchy type magazine - Any views on which is best please? Don't like 'all my yesterdays' designs but apart from that I quite like a lot of stuff and am not that bothered by freebies.

Snowed in with cross stitch - like that thought :T

Best thought ever :D We are going to see the inlaws tonight and stopping at Tesco on the way home so we can keep the whole weekend clear. If we eventually get any decent snow we are going to snuggle up and watch all the Harry Potter movies lol

gildius - Great wall is looking fantastic :T

My fabric stash is running a bit low. Not got much colour variety left - does anyone know of somewhere with a fabric sale? Sewandso's fabric sale section was a bit rubbish.

I am off to Spain next week - does anyone have book recommendations pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeese! x
depends so much on what you like but here goes
For light non fiction I like Stuart Maconie's books and I also love Andrew Marr's history books
In fiction I am a fan of crime thrillers especially by Val Mcdermid, Karen Slaughter or Tess Gerritsen. Have you read the Steig Larsson trilogy ? If you liked them I'd recommend Jo Nesbo
I loved Wolf Hall and so I would like to read Bringing up the bodies
One book I've recommended loads of times is The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins (probably the first ever detective novel)
I agree with the recommendations for Marian Keyes and Philippa Gregory and if you like family sagas then I would recommend Penny Vincenzi
And finally I can't go without putting in a word for my favourite author of all Jane Austen. If I could only have 1 book with me on holiday it would be one of hers and I can read them over and over again. Oh and I'm planning to read Les Miserables again soon (translated into English)
Enjoy your holiday. Would love to know what you choose to read
  • Evening Maria, I too fancy learning to quilt so have been self teaching myself, only managed to make this panel so far but I think it looks ok?

I did buy a Cath Kidson Rosli quilt cover from Ikea this week, it was a single but has some really pretty fabric front and back and cost me £15 but I bought it with my birthday money so didn't feel too bad. Here is what I have managed so far...........

Willow Fabrics still have some clearance linens which are great quality and a good price. Otherwise I've haven't seen any fabric on sale. Polstitches had a small selection but I wasn't tempted Well I was and put a couple of pieces in my basket but didn't check out and now they are sold out so temptation removed :D
  • Woot just popping on to say I finished all stitching on my mother's day card..ahead of schedule :). Nothing quite beats that sense of pride and accomplishment at finishing a piece even a mag freebie. I'm terrible at following charts but I like the way it's come out with the various changes :)

Louise - not sure on offer but i;m always tempted by sparklies grab bags and will poss invest once stash is low.

Dora - As for mags, quite a few 5 for £5 offers on cross stitch crazy and I think world of cross stitch, I subbed to both and waiting for first issue. Cross stitch collection has some lovely charts esp the monthly Joan Elliot stitch but never see intro offers. I also am just coming up to end of sub on cross stitch card shop with I enjoyed reading and was fairly varied.

    Wow - what a list - thank you :)

I usually take trashy books on holiday - last year I read all 6 shopaholic books for example.

I definitely won't take 50 shades of smut... I will go to Waterstones tomorrow and see what i fancy :) x
  • I enjoyed the new cecelia ahern sp? 100 names, it came out towards the end of last year
