Hi! It was this kit: http://direct.hobbycraft.co.uk/products-Tobin-by-Design-Works-Noahs-Ark-Sampler-Cross-Stitch-Kit_311597.htm

Not sure about thread make. Is there a way to find out if it's colourfast. I'd hate to ruin it once it's all finished

If you can't establish that the thread is one of the main brands then the only safe way is to stitch a few stitches in each of the colours and wash the trial piece. Then press with a white cloth (e.g. hanky if you can find one) and if there is any colour transferred onto the white cloth your threads aren't colourfast. Reds are particularly prone to colour run but your piece doesn't appear to have much if any red. I speak from bitter experience here
  • me again louise got back to me (she is so good, would recommend her every time)

"I think it’s DMC but I’ll double check and get back to you later if that’s ok?

    Louise"

i will let you know when she double checks hth

Monday was almost a washout - everything seemed to annoy me today. Then I got to work and was presented with a big box of Thorntons chocs and flowers as a thank you for helping a couple of the guys out over the last wee while. Then I got home and my boss phoned me and said I was going to be going to a ceremony next month to be presented with an award for my work with young people, so those incidents both made a nice end to the evening. No stitching though...maybe tomorrow....:D

*Note to self - still need to look out an xmas design to try and complete on 12.12.12.

Well done - I'm sure both were well deserved.

I have dug out an old UFO which is going to be my 12 12 12 piece as the design includes a date.
This is the piece when I found it.

As you can see the date is 08  I have now unpicked the date, worked out how I need to make a slight adjustment to allow for a longer date and started stitching it again. It's quite challenging for my old eyes as it is dark teal green 32 count Belfast linen but I've just remembered a tip I read somewhere and tonight I will plug in my light box and put that on my lap so the light shines up through the fabric making the holes easier to see. It isn't going to be a UFO any more :D

As it is such an old UFO I had cannibalised some of the threads and appear to have used all of the snowman colour (which isn't DMC white - it's Sampler Threads Oatmeal) so will have to buy another skein. The DMC colours were easily replaced and the variegated red (which is Caron Wildflowers Flame) and green (which is a ThreadWorx colour) were still with the chart and fabric

Hope you find a suitable design soon. Anyone else want to join in and stitch a Xmas design to be finished on 12 12 12 ? Doesn't have to be a UFO.

Current project - almost finished will try and upload more of my rug (not x-stitch but my BIG project for the year).
Trying to decided what to do next of all my UFOS and wish list, think Xmas stuff has to take priority.

This is really cute - looking forward to seeing it finished. Would also love to see your rug (sounds like a MAJOR project)

Well back from our walk. We walked for just under 3 hours and did 7.5 miles. It was hard walking up and down hills but felt good to have done it. don't know if I have mentioned it but I hit my weight watchers target on Friday, I've lost 60lb and dropped from a size 20/22 to a size 12/14. So pleased with myself. Just have to keep it off now.

    Wow that is fantastic. :T

That is what I was going to suggest. Also I am terrible for leaving mine in hoop all the time till finished.

I've only washed 2 pieces, but I just fill the sink a bit, squirt a bit of fairy washing up liquid n' swish a bit. then rinse under cold tap and lay to rest between 2 (un kitty haired) white/light towels.

    Welcome btw :)

Last night I finished the Christening charity piece (special thanks for Chicky for advising and motivating) and started a bit more work on one of the crimble coasters designing for Oh's siblings and parents. Stitchy bug seems to be back. Just need to start halloween exchange. I also just brought Cross stitch Crazy with Morrsions extra chart and simply cards which had some attractive xmas clear stamps with it.

This is what the finished picture should look like- so as you can see.. the red is yet to come. Maybe it would be best to clean now and then it might not need cleaning again at the end when the red is done.

I did a bit of googling and came up with a contact email address for the maker and have emailed them to ask if they know if the threads are colourfast. Worth a try. If they don't know, or don't get back to me then I'll go with your stitch a bit and test it approach. :)

I didn't even know you were supposed to take it out :o

Is it ok to leave things on a frame? I've now got one of those wooden one where you stitch it on and roll it up. Is that ok? :o

I have done this for my niece, somewhere on the instructions it says to wash the red and blue threads, I didn't do this as didn't read that bit before I'd already done red and blue, however I washed it when finished and nothing ran, but as you havn't started your reds and blues it would probably be better to wash it now anyway. HTH

Thanks, that definitely helps. I will clean it now and hopefully, if I'm super careful, it might not need doing again. ;) I could always wash the red and blue threads now as well.

Had an email replay from company:
    Sorry,
as per instructions darker colors should be washed and dried prior to stitching
we do not use DMC floss
    Thank you for your email

So that was super helpful. Hmm, not.

As it is such a large design I would be tempted to stitch all of it first as most of the marks will be covered by your stitching. I wash all my pieces in the washing machine on a low wash, but only use DMC threads so I can be sure they won't run. Sorry not much help to you...lol...xx
    ;)I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY;)
