  • sweetcarer - we have just had to buy a new set of house phones so we both contributed half the money towards them from left over birthday/christmas money. It was my suggestion and DH just went along with it. Money has been quite tight this year and whenever we receive cash for pressies, instead of buying things for ourselves, we tend to put it to one side in case anything unforseen turns up. Well christmas is just around the corner now so hopefully it wont be too long before our fall back money will be topped up. :D Hopefully you will get a little bit to treat yourself at christmas time.
Looking forward to seeing AOY update and teddy looks really cute.

chicky - love the new leafy border. Just had a quick look at your diary and sending you some virtual hugs. You must wonder why bother at times and I'm sure no one would blame you.

nmm - love BD update. :T

OMG...my baby has, or should I say had, some of those squishy rubbery toys...they are now in the bin....xx

Was that something on the prog?? What have I missed? :)

Monday was almost a washout - everything seemed to annoy me today. Then I got to work and was presented with a big box of Thorntons chocs and flowers as a thank you for helping a couple of the guys out over the last wee while. Then I got home and my boss phoned me and said I was going to be going to a ceremony next month to be presented with an award for my work with young people, so those incidents both made a nice end to the evening. No stitching though...maybe tomorrow....:D

*Note to self - still need to look out an xmas design to try and complete on 12.12.12.

chickywiggle, not sure if you managed to track down the 3803 you were after, but this seems a reasonable-ish deal from fleabay for 4x8m skeins of your choice of DMC colours from katzxstitch: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-x-8m-SKEINS-OF-DMC-6-STRAND-EMBROIDERY-FLOSS-Pick-Your-Own-Colours-/130712405236?pt=UK_Crafts_CrossStitch_RL&hash=item1e6f1104f4 (£1.92 plus 80p P&P...).

Fingers crossed you managed to get sorted out at JL.

You know the squishy rubbery toys that are filled with a gel or watery stuff, that you would hold in your hand and squeeze and they would squish out in all directions, some have lights in them that flash on and off.

They showed one of them being set on fire and it dripped everywhere in flames. Poundland have withdrawn them from sale.

Although to be fair I was speaking to my Mum about this last night and we agreed that most of my babys toys are made of plastic and if you clamped them and put a Bunsen Burner under them they would also drip scalding plastic so think the moral here is don't let your baby play with a Bunsen Burner (only joking...xx)
    ;)I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY;)

Hi :hello: hopefully one of you more seasoned cross stitchers can give me a bit of advice. I've done lots of bits and pieces over the years. Just small things. I recently started my first fairly big project (for me!) which is a birth sampler for a friend that I would like to give as a christmas present. Anyways, I started it off in hoop as I didn't have a frame, have now moved to a frame. But- even though I was really careful and wash my hands always before starting and keep it covered over it got dirty in the hoop :(

Is there a way to clean the canvas after I've finished it all? Or should I clean it now? Any advice welcome

    Laura :)
  • Ooh I've been wanting to ask that question too - I did a huge cross stitch a couple of years ago and the canvas came with a grid drawn on it and washing instructions, so it seems the ink will come off. I actually stitched on the other side and ignored the grid, because I prefer to work that way, but the pen still shows through from the other side. I just can't bring myself to wash it - should I?
  • I would wash it after by soaking it in warm water and a mild detergent and drying it flat, what make are the threads, are they a well known brand? If they are they will be colourfast if not I would be wary about washing it
