Erm, hello everyone...
How lovely to have been missed. Thankyou. Everything is ok, just about, but I have had the most busy and stressful few months - home, family & work. I didn't have time to stitch, and then once I'd missed a few weeks the amount to catch up on, for a pedant like me, made it a little daunting.
I hope everyone is OK? Please let me know anything I need to to avoid foot-in-mouth! I really have missed you all, and hope the girls prod plus me having a little less going on means I can visit here often.
My computer has also been out of action, got a rebuild yesterday so need to get that connected to Internet... Then find new broadband supplier... maria - those table mats and coasters look stunning.
littlestar - teddy with stars is so cute.
23rd - :hello: good to see you popping back into Cafe.
Cant seem to get enthusiasm up just now to stitch - it might happen later today. Had been expecting some threads today but sadly they haven't arrived.
Weather reports for w/e aren't too good I hear in fact while I was eating lunch I noticed several 'white bits' fluttering past the window.
Stay warm everyone

Maria - table looks lovely.
Ellip- grr how mean of them to move it, they just don't care do they. I remember going for a baby ultrasound where you have to drink a silly amount of water..............to be kept waiting 2hours. They ended up doing nearly all the mums with no fluid in cause we were about to wet ourselves.
eeek how exciting shelly - share us a pic when she gets home.
JCS1 - what a lovely offer. I tend to use DMC as I find Anchor feel quite thick but shall bear it in mind incase I need any.
You'll be please to know I went to parents evening (again) yesterday and this time got the day right and they were very pleased with DS1. :j I did discover his on/off best friend (how complicated can a 4yr olds life be?) is his best friend and they are like the mischevious 2 when together.........so thats ok then......I think.
yes b_e_g someone here's just said northumberland's had a snow flurry, no sign of it (yet) in Sheffield but the skies are scarily clear.loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0 -
Got quite
as I walked past the newsagents this morning and realised Cross Stitch Collection was in the shops today :j
I'm quite excited about the Noel cushion but thought I would seek your opinion on a couple of questions I have....
So I like the red and black theme but I'm not so keen on the (metallic?) gold thread used - any ideas for an alternative ? I wonder what colour might go with the red and black ? I'm also thinking of stitching on 16 count rather than the material stated? (32 count linen) have to say - linen is expensive !! Perhaps a 16 count cream ?? ideas welcome !
My commute today wasn't so bad - and the walk home has probably done me good even thought I felt grumpy while I was on my travels!
Happy Friday evening all :T
ps if you don't have cross stitch collection the dmc thread numbers used are 321 Red and 310 Black. in one strand, Kreinik (#8) Fine Braid 002 (Gold) is used (whatever this is??)
PPS Cross Stitch Collection is fab this month !0 -

Driving home from work we had a wee mini snow storm. At my work I get reports if they are going to grit the place and we have gritters out last night and tonight.
Only on for a few as I am in middle of baking. Will have to find camera and gets some pictures sorted.
Hope the weather isn't too bad tomorrow. Competition is away up in Bridge of Allan which is about 30 miles according to route planner. Hope to leave about 7 as we have to have all set up by 9. Judging is most of morning (have to find somewhere to go - might find a nice cafe for breakfast and have a nose round shops. Then back for 1 to see the results - then prize giving at 3.30. All items to be removed after 4.
Catch you all later - thank you all for your kind wishes

Hi everybody :hello:
Maria your place settings look fab. I would be scared to use them though... gravy
Flat Eric I found myself in Hobbycraft this afternoon and had a nosy in Cross Stitch Collection. Some nice projects this month- but all big and I must not distract myself from Noahs Ark. Well, not to much
Littlestar Found myself looking at Love Quilts Uk and I'm going to stitch some 'Any Child' squares. I thought I might do the blackwork owl, but in browns like mags did and it could go in maybe an animal section or miscellaneous and I can't remember who was doing the 'purplework' challenge (sorry) but there is a blackwork challenge 2 LINK whith lot of hearts and I was going to do that in pink and it could go in 'hearts' or miscellaneous. (Hence not distracting myself too much from Noahs Ark)
However slight set back to getting started- I seemed to suffer number blindness in Hobbycraft and bought aida which was 12"x18" when it needs to be 13"x13". I thought it said 18"x"8 and I could cut it down. Duh. Well at least I have some Aida for my stash now
Elliep Hope all goes well for you *hugs*
Still waiting for definite news from vets about Harolds kidneys. Got a vague message today about 'not much to worry about but the vet will ring us back' but they didn't. So now it will be monday. All this delaying getting his poorly teeth sorted, poor cat0 -
Good luck Sweetcarer!0

Good luck sweetcarer!! Hope it all goes well
I thought I would pop back on and post a review of Cross Stitch Collection. Mr T has been and delivered my shopping including 3 xmas gifts ! Its all put away and I've not long finished the dishes. Pretty tired now after getting up at 5.30am this morning! A bit irritated at the OH - told him to delete some stuff from the sky box (i.e. his stuff). he then proceeded to delete a few films (and a few other bits) I haven't seen yet (grrr)
anyhow review time!
Cross Stitch Collection
Issue 216 (Christmas 2012)
Eagerly anticipated after buying last months and seeing the "next month" pages.
Highlight of the magazine is the Noel cushion featured on page 4.
a striking combination of the world Noel displayed
N O
E L
using red to cross stitch the outline of the letters (and fill in (in back stitch) the inside of the letters. There is then a square border (cross stitched in gold). The square border is then finished off with a combination of gold cross stitch bordered by backstitch in black.
Would quite happily start stitching this design (like yesterday) but as will be seen from earlier post, undecided about material and thread colour. (would rather use something other than gold to avoid metalic thread hassles !!)
Festive Bears
These are really cute and I remember liking them when I saw them last month. They look like quite a bit of work however. lots of backstitch (think tatty ted) so I think would be too much to stitch for a card and certainly only something to be given to someone special). I'm also not sure I would stitch on the evenweave suggested.
Seasons Greetings
4 Retro Xmas designs. The xmas tree with the text Let it Snow is very fetching and I suspect will stitch. Very clever use of colours.
Orchid dreams
not for me
Christmas Kisses
cute cat sat by a xmas poinsetta. the Cross Stitch Collection rather large chart....
Cute and a possible stitch if ever a rainy day materialised
Hardanger Heart
will peruse when not so tired....
The Heart of Christmas
Hmmm this is nice. a heart design stitched simply in red on linen but really not sure if nice enough to stitch (the old adage too many projects - too little time.
Bags of funs
These are really cool and I really like them. Think cute xmas motifs combined with letters of the alphabet. They look quick and easy to stitch and ideal for using up odd ends of thread. where's me needle ?Perfect for xmas gift tags or as featured in the mag - xmas gift bags (not sure where you get the bags from??) (oh you make them yourself :D)
Next month. Santa Cards by Lucie Heaton are cute as it Patterned puddings by Angela Poole. Not sure about the fairy.0
