Cross Stitch Cafe - stitching out of 2012 and into 2013...

Happy Monday everyone! Hope its not as damp, cold and grey where you are as it is here. I'm trying hard to get cracking with my OU study - started last week after years of not doing much and it's interesting but draining.
Thanks Sk00bie for recommending sewnadsew, I placed the order for the blue fabric on Thurs at 3.30, and it arrived the next morning at 8.30! I've never had an internet delivery so fast! I had to run and check the computer cause I thought I'd accidentely checked the £8 express delivery button - but no for a quid it got here in 17 hours WOW!!
So I left aside the welcome banner and have got stitching chistmas cards! So far I've done 1 snowflake (how many mistakes did I make on fri - rugby and xs don't mix?) and half of a dove. I thought they looked very classy and sophisticated, DH thought they were for little boys and not right for Christmas. Grrrrrr. He obv. has appalling taste (apart form me) but I am starting to think maybe traditional red and green may have been better.
Ruth-honey - I hope you are feeling ok and the trip on Friday didn't take too much out of you.0 -
Thanks Flat Eric, I really do prefer stitching larger designs though. I'm very tempted by a cut through if I can get a nice one in chart form (not kit). I'm also very tempted by a 'dictionary of', maybe the bra one because my mum laughed at it for ages when I showed it to her online a year or two back. I could do it for her birthday (May - so I've got ages).
I'm just a little bit put off by the fiddly nature of both of these styles. has anyone stitched a 'dictionary of' or 'cut thru' design? do they have as much confetti stitch as it looks like?
I finished Dictionary of Cakes earlier this year - it had become a UFO but only because other projects had taken priority and I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it. It didn't have a lot of confetti stitching and because each box can be completed separately it felt like I was making good progress. I personally didn't enjoy all the backstitch but having a separate chart for this did help. Unfortunately I don't have the chart anymore as I sold it with the left over threads or I would have offered to pass it on.
Chicky has stitched Princess Cut Thru and I think someone else has also completed a dictionary design0 -
Ailsb, what a lovely gift from your son. Those glasses look really nice :j
brednall, Sorry you seem to be having some problems at home. I hope you have a better week this week.
firefly, great update, love your litte bunny.
Maria, if you don't feel like stitching it I would go with option A. To me there is no point stitching something that you arn't enjoying.
Eric, I like thats Boffle kit. It looks like you can take elements from it to use in single cards too. I would live to recieve a card with the robin and penguin :rotfl:
sweetcarer, I think your bookmarks are lovely but I do prefer the 'hands off' design. Maybe because its my fave colour?
littlestar, great update on youre bear's. Is there much left to do?
shelly, good progress on the cats. Its a really nicedesign, good luck and enjoy stitching it.
Louise, glad to see 12 days is coming along nicely even after you were going to unpick it. I really like how bright each design is
Need to do an update really, London is down to just two pages and confetti on one page left. Annoyed though because when I went to HC on Friday I forgot one skein. So there are about 10 stitches I need to stich on the completed pieces. I have also completed one of the mini kits, it only took just under 2hours so will be getting a few more of those because they are cute :rotfl:0 -
Louise. 12 Days is looking great.
mrs-mp. Look forward to seeing your 3 finished Lizzie Kates.
I have a question please, need advice.
I have worked out what fabric size I need for the designs I plan to do for christmas next year but wonder if buying the fabric is a case of shopping around or does one particular place come out cheapest consistently?
As you know I am more of a complete kit buyer rather than buying fabric and threads seperately so I have no idea.
I am getting my threads from acrosstown as I know they are cheapest at the moment but before I sit for hours researching fabric prices I thought I'd ask you more knowledgable ladies.....should I shop around or can you tell me one site that's cheapest at the moment?
I am after both aida and evenweave.
Thanks:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -

I think it depends what kind of fabric you are after. I recently bought a material pack from a retailer I don't normally use thinking it was a "good buy" and it was - just not the good buy I was expecting. The material is useable but just not the quality I am used to. I usually buy my material from sew and so and have bought more unusual sized (20 count etc)material from Willow Fabrics. I think it is worth paying the extra. I think the bigger the fabric piece, the better deal you get. and with Willow Fabrics - they have had some exclusive online deals for certain materials.
GRRRR Have several parcels due this week - 3 turned up today but one is coming by courier (Home Delivery Network) It arrived at the depot on Saturday and went out for delivery at 11.10am this morning. At the time I left the office (just before 5) it hadn't arrived as our reception closes at 5, I'm not sure what is going to happen to it. Its still showing out for delivery at the moment. Suspect they will attempt delivery soon and then it will go back to the depot. Anyone know what their delivery times are ? I couldn't find anything on their website? and I didn't want to wait at the office indefinitely ....0 -
What time will my delivery be made?
This depends on the delivery arrangement made by the sender of the parcel. Unless they chose a specific timed delivery for your parcel delivery could take place anytime between 7am and 9pm.Do not meddle in the affairs of Dragons, for thou art crunchy and good with catsup
