Afternoon all. I am looking for some advice/guidance please from all you more experienced stitchers

I have started the Michael Powell design from the latest WOCS. I am normally a stickler about stitches not overlapping under the backstitch and making them quarter or three-quarter stitches where necessary but do I need to forget this with a MP design? Is it the overlapped stitches that make his designs so quirky?

Hope you understand what I mean by this - not so easy to explain even though I can see exactly what I mean in my mind!!!

    Emma

It took me a bit to figure out what you meant :o I followed the chart exactly and I didn't personally notice any overlap once it was finished, especially since it's such a 'sketchy' style in the first place. :)

Disappointed to get an e-mail from Eba/ about a country companions kit I am after (at woodstump station) only to see once again that the e-mail search that I have saved has picked up a cd of country companions chart designs. :( always get excited that the kit has finally come up for sale only to see once again that it is someone selling the chart on disk.

From someone who always resents having to buy a whole kit when all I need is that chart :o.......can't you get the bits you need seperately if you like the design so much? :)

  • Heyo, Ok couple of q's re: metallic thread and seed beads:

Does anyone know which Gutermann thread would be equiv size etc to Kreinik #8 (which I have)

Any experience using these two brands? (I've purchased thread heaven)

I've only used standard DMC and Madeira metallics a little before but have had some Kreinik#8 in my stash for a while.

Also where is the best/cheapest place to buy metallics please?

On the off chance does anyone have any in dark purple/ gunmetal/black (will also consider other colours for swap)that they no longer need/want and want to sell/ swap to me I have shades #8 013, 024, 042, 102, 271 practically all unused. :p

Also same question regarding glass seed beads, I need some black/ black metallic ones and not sure where is cheapest once again. Prob only need a dozen or so of each to pretty things up aka embellish stitchyness :p

I ordered some lovely sparklies lugana samples :)

Finally any knowledge/sites/prices etc on glow in the dark thread?

Halloween exchange piece best be amazing after all this, lol

Have to restart as ill cat and stitching doesn't mix well. Not too upset though as wasn't happy with it at all so designing something new.

I can help with spare seed beeds, do you want to pm me?

And with Kreinik - my oldest UFO has lots of blending filament, hence why it's a UFO!

I've got a DMC glow in the dark thread, how much would you need?

sweetcarer I recognise that piece and it is lovely but I have no more idea than you which magazine it came from. If you do find out the issue number I will have it in my stash if it is Cross Stitcher or an old issue of Cross Stitch Collection

ruth honey thinking of you at the funeral today. Hope the journey is ok and that you don't get too tired

FOS - I found them! I went into the shed last night - only to discover it had a flood. So I grabbed all my magazines - some are damp and brought them into the house along with some material I found. Sadly my box of photos was ruined, as well as some books another bits and pieces. I have washed the material (various counts of aida and evenweave - inc. one large piece of 28hpi blue evenweave - don't know why I have it). The material has some black marks from damp even when washed so don't know if I should try bleaching it to save it or is it a lost cause.

The magazine is cross stitch collection - and looking through them I found it was from issues 10 (April/May 1994) to issue 14 (Dec/Jan 1995). They are not too badly damaged - just smell a wee bit damp.

Been thinking of you too Ruth-Honey - hope today was as well as it could be for you today.

Mr A is helpfully bringing my shopping tonight (tune into my diary sometime over the weekend to see what thrilling variations of 'on toast' I can come up with to cover the next 4 weeks meals.
Also must update my avatar........ 9 weeks...........

    Thanks for the reminder Chicky!

Well today was quite a good and bad day. My dad has bought me a new car (2nd hand) and I will pay him back over the months ahead, so I phoned my insurance company to transfer the policy and they are going to put it up £20 a month - but checking on comparison site I found my insurance company only charging £5 extra - so don't know if its worth calling them to challenge them?

Well going to do more on my second book mark - I am using variageted threads on it and as someone earlier said - each individual one is fun. The first book mark I have done a variety of stitches - cross stitch, back stitch, algerian eye, rice stitch, herringbone and fern stitch. Hope to finish them soon and you lot can help me decide what one to put in the competition next week.

Kind wishes to all - keep warm its cold out there

    sweetcarer ;)

  • Thanks JCS1. I think I am sorted.

Woohoo... Louise at across town has done it again:D

I have just ordered Economy pack of black seed beads 9gms £2
1 of each DMC light effects - glow in the dark, titanium & Ebony :)
@ 80p at least 30p cheaper than everywhere else I saw.

    and £1.50 p+p

Happy Bunny. Slightly concerned that Exchange piece is costing over £15 in total this time round but at least I will be proud!! and I'll have lots of left over thread and beads :)

sweeycarer - you are very very unlucky when it comes to acts of nature aren't you?!

girl at work changed her car recently and rang her normal insurance company - they wanted to put it up. she looked online to find the same insurance she needed was cheaper thro them if she did it online so rang to question it.
They pretty much said "tough". " yes we'll offer you that price but you'll have to cancel your existing policy at £x and take the new one out".

I believe she told them where they could shove their policy and went elsewhere.
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:

Thanks all for your comments on the angel and kitty :) It's nice to show my work to people who understand :rotfl:

Am so glad it's Friday, this week has been completely  I'll join you FE in that glass of wine if I may!
I had to leave my office just after I got into work this morning as the other two members of my department where having a massive row, oh the excitement lol

Chicky - it's such a pain isn't it? One of my co-workers wanted me to re-file EVERYTHING cause she can't be bothered to look up the location in a spread sheet... /sigh Oh and I had the same thing with my car insurance last year. Direct Line wanted me to pay double what a new customer would have paid. I told them no thanks and used a compare site to get a much better deal!

FOS - Thanks for the links :) I love a couple of the angel ones.

Subtle - glad you got everything you needed, hope to see a picture of your creation soon!

Am just settling down to a movie and some stitching, although I'm really tired. Spent half an hour wandering round the supermarket trying to decide what to have for dinner and ended up buying loads of cakes and stuff... oops! :D

I've run out of variegated purple thread :( . However I have managed to get half way round the leaves so that's a positive. In the process of sorting the thread out for the Bug for my son. Haven't got 3 colours need to use substitute colours.

Hubby has just gone to collect an Indian take-away. We are going to have it with the bottle of sparking rose wine that our son bought us for our anniversary using the glasses to gave us. Will take a photo and post it - I'm so proud of him choosing them all on his own.

Can't remember who posted the link to the Christmas designs stitched on paper but there are some lovely ones there that may have to be added to my "to do" list. Thank you - I think. :D
