Phones 4 u wifi payment problem

Hi
Bought Htc wifi phone from phones 4 u in December with 3 months free wifi gave bank details so I could pay wifi fee of £2.99 a month from March. In March the payment failed so I set it up again. Payment has failed very month since so I've not had access to wifi. Today I finally had time to ring to them to sort it out & was told I had to pay for the missing months, which I refused to do as I have not had access to the service so why should I pay for it? As a result the have cancelled my account & can only get wifi now if I pay the outstanding amount. Does anyone know where I stand legally- it's not my fault they didn't take the payment, they had the right bank details.
Thanks
Cathy

  • I went into Phones4U last week, saw an offer on Phones4U wi-fi and enquired about coverage. They said it came from the store, and the signal was only available in the shopping centre! You didn't pay £2.99 for that, Shirley?

No it's via Cloud so you can use it in the hotspots so not just that shopping center
It's not just about the money
  • the cloud is useless i can never log on to it

I use the Cloud quite a lot, have no problems logging on and, it's free.

How come Phones4U charge for it?

I don't use it but as far as I know whilst some venues are free quite a lot require payment so I would assume the P4U package would mean a lot more hotspots to choose from ???

I checked out the Cloud wifi and there are no hotspots in my area.I assume you can't log on eg in a cafe with wifi if there is no cloud hotspot. When I was using the 4U wifi there was no problem logging on to the internet in cafes with wifi. I used it abroad with no problem. However I would be very grateful if someone could answer my question- can 4U make me pay for the months I didn't have access to the service because they couldn't get the payment through no fault of mine? Thanks

The problem is that you would need to get proof that it was P4U not collecting with the correct details you gave rather than you giving the wrong details.

I would suggest that you ask them for a new contract (without the first 3 months free) as you are unwilling to pay for a service you have not been getting and see what they say

If they insist on reinstating the first contract ask them for the reason the DD's were not collected as everything was in place at your end

Hi. Silk. thanks I have tried to do that but woon't repond to when I asked them about the details I gave them- they just read from a script & even after conferring with a supervisor won't budge. I might try emailing or going back into the shop to check thanks Cathy

    Your welcome,
I would go into a shop as you say and take any print outs with you.
They cannot expect or demand you to pay for a service that you were not able to enjoy due to the account not being activated ;)

If you have used any service other than the 3 free months then of course you will be liable for that period

Why did the payment in March fail - you deleted the direct debit?

A few months down the line you want to use the service but have not been paying for it for the past months even though you signed up to monthly payment?

Phones4u would be in right to expect you to pay for the missing months before allowing providing you with any further service.
