  • I have recently been trying to go Everyday Value for most things to keep to my reduced food shop budget. I have liked almost everything i've tried so far which were:

    Pasta Sauce
    Spaghetti
    Custard Creams
    Malted Milk Biscuits
    Fruit Pastils
    Chewy Toffees
    Lemonade
    Floor Cleaner
    Disinfectant
    Furniture Polish
    All Purpose Cleaning Spray
    Toilet Cleaner
    Fresh Chicken Drumsticks
    Wafer Thin Ham
Low Fat Fruit Yogurts - love these!!!
    Plain & White Chocolate
    Tinned Tomatoes
    Frozen Peas
    Tinned Pineapple

The only thing i've tried so far that I didn't like was the bag of apples. I thought they tasted vile. I won't be trying them again.

Next thing on my list to try are the EV Fruit & Fibre and Multigrain Hoops (cheerios) cereals.

Thumbs ups from DH for the EV Maple & Pecan Crisp (cereal)
Also bought a can of EV Air Freshener (aerosol) which smells lovely
2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shading
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

I've said this about Value fruit before; it may have been the variety you didn't like rather than the product. They tend to cycle round with whatever is cheapest at the time so one day the Value apples may be a variety which you love.

There is one type of grapes I hate so whenever they are in the value packs they get left on the shelf. But when they are any other variety I grab them.

You can never guarantee consistent quality with fruit & veg by it's very nature either, just like cheese always comes out differently! I've had M&S premium grapes going brown 5 days before bb date, stored correctly my end too.

Everyday Value Sausage Casserole: all sausage and no casserole!

4 large sausages (very tasty) and very little in the way of filling- sausages make up 20% of contents whereas potatoes were 10%, carrots 6% and peas 2%. Not much gravy either.

Didn't fill me up, needed a bread roll or something similar to go with it to make it a meal. Taste was ok but wouldn't buy again.

I generally try to avoid Mr T's because I disagree with their ethics, but these are the bits we've tried and are ok. We generally feel that of all the supermarkets, Sainsbury's Basics range is of higher quality and often better in price too! For us, Sainsbury's usually works out cheaper for what we buy and I check every time using mysupermarket.

    Stuff we like;
EV red kidney beans- can't tell difference
Tom soup- ok, but would still prefer Heinz, but was good for price
    EV sultanas- can't tell difference
    EV dried apricots
    EV air freshner
EV Tortilla chips- great, but Sains do a bigger bag for less
EV 4 pk yogurts- great! Prefer the fact they don't have much fruit and are smoother
EV small cartons juice- fab for lunchboxes and only 50p for 3, OK Lidl's is better in price but can't always get there
EV chocolate- use all 3 for baking and cheaper than buying cooking choc!
EV net of courgettes- no difference
    EV bag of carrots- great
EV canned tuna- great, but Sains is cheaper
EV mozerella- great and good price, only Lidl is cheaper
    EV butter- no difference
Custard- tinned and sachets- no difference
All EV tinned fruit- great for instant puddings
EV brandy- did a fab job in my Christmas cake and brandy butter, got nothing but compliments. Don't drink it otherwise.
EV mince- yes, do need to drain of a lot of fat, but it's just as tasty as organic and other more expensive varieties!
    EV chicken breasts

    Not keen on;
EV potatoes- very bruised and black, went off quickly
I can't stand any other rice pudding than Ambrosia, hate both Tesco own label and EV
    Minimalist
    Extra income since 01/11/12 £36,546.45

Good EV - Chopped Tomatoes (tin), Baked Beans (tin), Dry Pasta - spaghetti & penne, Apple & Blackcurrant squash cordial, frozen chicken breast portions, vanilla cheesecake, custard, stewing steak, UHT milk, vodka (fine with mixers), bran flakes, eggs, apples (depending on what variety is in them), bananas, pears, peppers, cherry tomatoes, onions, new potatoes, carrots, frozen sweetcorn, milk chocolate, bourbon creams, shortbread (bargain), custard cream, pitta breads.

Poor EV - Frozen White Fish Fillets (bland & awful texture), Wheat biscuits (like processed cardboard), toilet roll (no further explanation needed), bread (poor quality, stale very quickly), cola (overly fizzy, artificial taste), nappies (only used 2, threw rest away).

Just thought I'd post about the Everyday Value Mulitgrain crackers. They're 69p for 150g and they're flippin lovely! They're slightly sweet (although don't have any sugar in the ingredients), slightly salty (but not as salty as Tuc or Ritz) and you can taste the multigrain (slightly nutty-ish? taste). They're great on their own or with cheeses and they apparently don't contain artificial colours, flavours, preservatives or hydrogenated fat. I'd highly recommend (and tbh I'm not that keen on most Everyday value stuff :))
  • I always buy the tesco value passata and lasagne sheets. They do not change the taste to my lasagne!

I also buy the everyday value carrots and onions which are in bags. I always have a wee rake through to pick out the decent sized onions and carrots within the bags and they keep quite well!

Tried a Tesco Everyday Value Rump steak tonight (Approx £4 for two steaks). Barely any fat, and if I do say so myself, cooked perfectly was tasty! :)
    PK! :money:

Agreed! :( - put them out for the birds and even they don't like them!
