To sky or not to sky

Thanks given again for everyone with advice. I don't quite know what to do anymore. Does anyone know if you can just pay £10 a month for the recording facility and then use the box as a free view?0
-
Yes. The £10/month 'subscription' just for Sky+ functionality is the alternative to the free Sky+ functionality 'subscription' that comes with a paid-for subscription to a channels package.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Thanks. It's not what they told me yesterday but I'll make a point of ringing them back and asking again0

I imagine Sky telephone operators are not encouraged to recommend this option. Do be aware that even the cheapest Sky subscription will allow Sky+ functionality and so allow you to view (and record) many more channels for only a few quid more.Thanks. It's not what they told me yesterday but I'll make a point of ringing them back and asking again
Alternatively, you could scrap Sky altogether and buy a Freesat PVR. Although it would require an upfront payment, in the long run this might be the most cost effective option.
Before you do anything, you need to check your dish is aligned properly.0 -
I've looked and the cheapest decent pvr is about £100. The cheapest sky tv package is approx £20 which is £10 more than the record only facility. Sky have really annoyed me over the last few days and I'm now inclined to quit them altogether. £10 a month for record only on free view is bearable I think. It saves the hassle of a new box which my mrs will be happy with. We had a humax two years ago and we both hated it! I think we are just sky 'fanboys' tbh0

Don't forget that you will have to continue paying this forever at £120 a year. A new Freesat PVR would be paid for after only ten such payments.£10 a month for record only on free view is bearable I think.
But you've been offered a retention deal, no?The cheapest sky tv package is approx £200 -
Moneyineptitude wrote: »I'm afraid you don't qualify as a "new" customer after only three months...Hi,
My package has just come to an end and bumped up to £61 a month including talk and BB.
After an hour on the phone they offered me the following based on the fact that I wanted the full package which currently costs £75 per month.
20% off for a year, making my package £60 per month
25% off for 6 months making it about £53 per month and then back to £75.
I wanted a new box as mine was 2 years old. They offered me an engineer call out for £15, refurb box for £30 or brand new box with 12 months HD subscription for £89.
I ended up cancelling despite their best efforts to keep me. I now have 31 days to decide what to do. I have switched before but always prefer sky tbh. I do kinda want the full package and would go for it at 20% cheaper but I wanted to see what people thought. I need a new box as well. What do people think about their offers on the box?
Let me know, many thanks
You were being too greedy....As soon as you mentioned a 'new box' you got shot down,as to the boxes, the new box for £89 would be the better option.0 -

Yup,usually six or 12 months before you're classed as a new user.0 -

Yeah, forgot about that, lol. So it would be £16 for the year. Decisions decisions0 -

I agree but you've gotta try milking it for all it's worth! Their current offer is still 20% or 25% for 6 or 12 months plus new box for £89... So the offer is still there if I want it0
