;55926187]What I don't understand is that you seem to have a huge issue with England subsidising Wales and wasting English tax payers money as you see it but then you don't mind lazy sods in England screwing the system?
Some of my best friends are Welsh.
;55926187]Doesn't make sense. Surely you can't think this woman's attitude that she doesn't ever need to work is OK?
The woman was living in possibly the worst council estate in the UK, was a victim of domestic violence, an unwilling single mother in an area with huge levels of unemployment, was taking medication for her depression and was drinking and smoking cannabis every night.
She was obviously extremely unhappy with her life, but you take umbrage at her owning a flat screen TV, as if a flat screen TV is a luxury and not the norm in these almost CRT TV free times.
I don't believe that she should never seek work again, but obviously she needs a lot of help and support before she can do so. I am glad that I don't have as little empathy as you, I would be ashamed of myself, as you should be.0 -

Fair does she's possibly had a rough time but I'm sorry the attitude that going for a job interview is something that she believes she shouldn't have to do is not exactly on.
Do I think people need a helping hand sometimes? Of course I do. If she was in her situation and was actually making some effort to help herself then it'd be different.
And don't give me the standard thing about she lives here, no jobs, single parent blah blah blah. Ever been to the South Wales valleys? A lot of places exactly like that estate in Blackburn possibly worse. Been there done that so I know exactly how bad things can be believe me.0 -

I think we're going to have to update the basic human needs then:-
Food
Fresh Water
Shelter
Flat screen TV0 -

So, your solution to a mentally ill, domestic abuse victim having no motivation to work is to confiscate her flat screen TV. I think you may have a valid point...0 -
, was taking medication for her depression and was drinking and smoking cannabis every night.
Which are both incur depression.
Surely the irony is not lost, even on you??
She had had her house decorated for free, was indignant that her 1 hour previous job infringed on her shopping time and was rasing a couple of feral children.
Oh yeah, and she 'didn't believe in school'. Possibly as it entailed actually getting up before Jeremy Kyle came on on her gazillion inch telly.
And that, is why people like her should not get a pay rise on their benefits. It's hardly going to be spent wisely. Though I am impressed she was drinking red wine for the anti-oxidants (that'll be handy when she home schools her latest ASBO kid who got expelled in primary school).:rotfl:She probably counts the grapes towards her 5 a day I fear however.
I am not ashamed at all to say I have no compassion for people like that - I save it for the genuine people who are down on their luck, not those that make these kind of scummy lifestyles a norm for themselves.0 -

I don't think I ever suggested confiscate anything.
I'm just pointing out that its wrong that benefits can be used as a lifestyle option. And, as such, it allows people like this to spend benefits money on LUXURIES like booze, fags, TVs etc.
No matter which way you spin it a TV is a luxury item.
There are pensioners in this country who can't afford a TV, in fact can't afford to heat their houses who have worked all their lives. But you seem to think someone like this woman deserves to have what she wants?
As for her depression, fair enough, she deserves help. But might as well be taking smarties as medication if she's going to continue to drink and take drugs. Yes, I do know what I'm talking about.
You've got to be willing to help yourself first after all. And there's only one person who can change her attitude about working.0 -

Spot on Sparkle. Especially the last paragraph.
I do feel sorry for her kid though having such a mother who doesn't even have the decency to want better for her kids. He's going to end up just like her unfortunately.0
