How do you know who has had to make that kind of choice?
And as for luck, is it luck? Always?
Irrelevant. Not your body, not your choice. If you don't like abortion, don't get one. it's pure arrogance to think you have the right to restrict others from making an alternative choice.Have I helped? Feel free to click the 'Thanks' button. I like to feel useful (and smug).0 -

And I don't think that, I am pro choice. However, it is not irrelevant to say "it is not always luck" that implies that there is nothing that can be done about unwanted pregnancy before the event, and condones a careless attitude to contraception.
Additionally, many of the comments on this thread have shown that many women do not think the act of abortion is a particularly serious or onerous decision or event. That is their prerogative, but it is indicative of how far the pendulum has swung from the aims of the original Abortion Act and I personally am not sure that is a good thing. The genie is well and truly out of the bottle.0 -

It doesn't imply that at all.
Unless you are celibate (in fact, even if you are celibate) there is always an element of luck in avoiding pregnancy, much as some seem determined to deny it!0 -

There may be an element, but if you were serious about it you would/should take belt and braces precautions, which then renders the risk very small. It certainly doesn't account for the figures detailed further up the thread.0 -

Are you suggesting celibate women should take precautions in case of rape?0 -

How many times do we have to go over this?
Why are you so determined to paint women who have unplanned pregnancies as being at fault? Does it make pregnancy as punishment seem more palatable?
Belt and braces aren't an option for everyone, I couldn't take hormonal contraceptives for years. They still have a failure rate even with perfect use, and as far as I know we haven't come up with a way to make human beings perfect yet anyway.
Also, as barbarawright pointed out, not all pregnancies result from consensual sex.0 -
In response to an earlier poster in regards to Ireland. Abortion is still illegal in Northern Ireland as well, even in cases of rape. The most worrying thing is the number of young girls ordering pills over the internet as they don't have the opportunity for proper medical help at home and don't have the finances to travel and pay for the procedure, putting themselves at great risk.0

Quite how you would infer that is beyond me. For the avoidance of doubt; absolutely not.0 -

Till you get the point?
Within those stats are women who have not been "unlucky" certainly not been raped, or had any other issue, they have simply not bothered to protect themselves adequately, and there are scores of them. That is the point, and whilst abortion should still be available to them, they should be made to understand that they have a responsibility to themselves and to society not to use it ad nauseum.0 -

None of this is actually about concern for unborn 'children' is it?0
