Im just interested in what the people who are appalled by the multiple abortion figures see as the alternative?
I personally dont understand why some women would go through mulitple abortions, but I also personally do not understand why some people become drug addicts, why some people choose to gamble their life savings away, why people choose to spend £7 on a packet of fags.
Does that mean we shouldnt offer help to drug addicts, should we withdraw all NHS treatment for smoking related illness?
IMO the sex education in this country is terrible and we need to be taking a much more mature approach to educating our children at a younger age, but the pro-life lobby would probably see that as horrifying aswell.
Contraception? The BIG difference is that drug addicts/smokers etc. do NOT have another life inside them. Simples.*Look for advice, not 'advise'*

I have heard people advocate for forced sterilisation, all sorts. I can only think that they know not what they say...
I can see an absolute need for enforced sterilisation for those women/men who keep spawning children that they serially neglect/abuse.*Look for advice, not 'advise'*

Hi again all!
First of all, thank you so much to those who have shared your experiences both on the thread and also via PM – believe it or not, it was good to get a non-clinical view so I would know which way to support the young woman.
However, we went to the clinic today for her consultation and it seems she is 7.5 weeks along (so more than she thought) and over the weekend she has done a lot of thinking and after being given all options by the clinic she has decided to keep it!
She is going to tell her dad towards the end of the week after she has had a bit more time to get her head around it all – I have offered to be there when she tells him.
It also looks like we might be bump buddies! me and OH got a positive this morning (I had assumed my period was late due to the stress over the last couple of weeks – we have been ‘not trying, not preventing). I haven’t told her our news yet and wont until she is 100% certain of what she wants to do as I wouldn’t want to influence her decision in any way.
:j Congratulations to you and your OH, what a lovely suprise.
And thank you for being there for this young lady and for giving her the head space to make up her own mind without any outside influence.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

I'm sorry but I have reported this thread. It is getting to upsetting for me to read (yes I know I don't have to) but I have started to worry about the feelings of other posters. This nastiness has gone too far for my liking and is not a healthy debate when folks are getting really upset now is it?0

He was an older GP though, and has since retired, so maybe it's down to experience
That's prob one of the factors, same with smears/colps etc. Can totally make a difference who does it.*Look for advice, not 'advise'*

Next time I'll probably take some painkillers a couple of hours beforehand - and get my partner to drive me the half hour to the clinic. I have no idea how I drove home on my own last time!
The pain itself was...odd. They have to wash your cervix, which feels WEIRD, and measure your uterus before inserting the coil. It's not like any other pain I've ever experienced. I can look back and giggle now though, the nurse was holding my hand and telling me to "unclench my buttocks" the whole time!

If you read my post I did say that if on an individual level the choice is easy trough circumstance, overall, the act of abortion should not be seen as a trivial event.
But who said it is seen as a trivial matter over-all? I don't think it is at all and I think the information given out by the NHS and private clinics mostly gives all the options in a factual and dispassionate way. I've never seen any official material on abortion nor heard any medical professional say "Ahh sure, have an abortion, they're no big deal. Fill yer boots!"I deliberately put the words in quotes to take away the connotation of the second word. Not evil in the sense that requires atonement, but evil as in a choice between the devil and the deep blue sea.
I also put evil in marks. But as has been seen on this thread, a lot of people do think that if a woman has an abortion she should experience emotions ranging from guilt to inner turmoil and you (as in the general 'you') simply cannot make someone feel what they don't feel.“Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it. Anyway, it's like your bank balance - you always have a lot less than you think.”

*sigh* - if there's one thing I love more than a heated discussion on abortion it's when someone attempts to dictate what everyone else can read based on their own sensibilities.
You are right lilibet - you didn't have to read it and neither does anyone else who gets upset by other people's views.“Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it. Anyway, it's like your bank balance - you always have a lot less than you think.”
