    GET ON WITH IT!

If you can't bear to leave this forum for too long, just go off and write 500 words and then come back and tell us you've done that.

If you can't write 500 words, make a plan for the rest of the essay and post it here. I expect 6 headings and anyone who knows anything about philosophy can contribute an idea towards your 500 words for that heading.
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).

It is alright, I will just have to cope, I just get overwhwlmed that is all.

At university you just have to cope as you are meant to be grown up.

Do you know, I now see why people get so frustrated with you Phil

You say you need help, and cant sort yourself out, so when someone offers you refuse.

You moan about not having skills, then find some excuse not to equip yourself ( as if for everyone else our skills fell out of the sky  )

You moan about not being able to find a job, but then barely look for one- rrestricting yourself hugely.

you say you are too anxious, but then refuse support to help you deal with these feelings.

At university you dont "have to cope". Ive been to uni and there were plenty of people who made lots of different choices, they went to a uni near home/ changed courses/ dropped out. I saw a counsellor at uni. I got myself into a right state during my finals, couldnt eat/sleep or anytihng just worked and worked until I became very ill. What did I do? I saw my GP who suggested I went onto anti-depressants, I siad no to that terrible idea as I wasnt depressed, just stressed and went to holland & barrett instread and got some sort of herbal tablets for a fiver and a bottle of radox and relaxed in the bath.
This is called using my initiative.

Im not an expert in stress or management, I just saw some adverts & thought Id try it.

Phil, at times it sounds as if it is neither your tutor nor disability support you need to see, it is a counsellor, probably through the student health service. It is not help with writing your dissertation you sound as if you need, it is help with the stuff going on in your head. And are you going to wait until you're in hospital with a nervous breakdown before you tell your parents you're not happy?

Trouble is, you only want the kind of help you've decided you need. Even if you got it, you'd still be thinking that you were a failure for needing that help when other people didn't.

I don't get you at all phil, Lynzpower has just offered to go out of her way to help you and all you have to say is that it is alright that you will just have to cope. You just said that you couldn't cope, which is it phil??

How did you get to the 3rd year if you were out of your depth? You would have failed your first year, or you would definately been given warnings that your work wasn't up to it by now!

Go to your head of department or phone them now, if you get fobbed off you then go to the principal's office.

You have been on here for hours this morning after hours last night - you could have been close to completing your research project in this time you have wasted. When I was at uni your thesis subject had to be approved by a tutor and if you had any difficulties you saw them to discuss any problems.

    Phil,

The advice that you've been given on here is fantastic. Sometimes though it's hard to take that advice on board. We think (read me and you!) that we know what the answer is and then get annoyed/peeved when that advice is not given to you. I've found out the hard way - ie ignoring people's advice (this only happened once mind you!) and then finding myself in an unmanageable situation on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

You need to take time out away from (gasp) MSE. Some people on here (me included) are too reliant on the support and friendships that we've made and found here.

What you need to do now is to write down in a list what you need to do. Find your tutor, explain that you NEED HELP NOW. If it helps, before you see them write down EXACTLY what you need help with. This will stop you beating around the bush when you get to them. Whilst I was at uni, I began to suffer from depression because I thought that I was "alone". I wasn't, I just wasn't able to take advice on board. It was actually the course leader that helped me in the end. I'll never forget the times that I spent in his office, going over on what needed to be done next that I couldn't actually see even though it was blatantly obvious.

Take care, but PLEASE take all the advice on board.

INcidentally I know a fair amount about philosophy as I did my degree in politics and I specialised for a time in Ethics.

A counsellor can not help me when I can understand the readings or when I just can not understand the subject.

I go to the hospital and they say I do well to say I have had no support. It is late for a counsellor now as the waiting list is months.

I am hoping it won't end up with me having a nervous break down but sometimes it does feel as if I am heading for one. It would kill my parents to know what a state I am in, so trust me when it is best to deal with it in a private way.
