Place the loo roll holder just out of reach from the w.c., or place the loo roll in a draw.

The first came about because we moved a toilet but forgot the loo roll holder. The second, I like the other loo to look tidy and there is a draw adjacent to the w.c., so I keep it hidden away.

    are you my friend?

I'd just like to tell you how awkward I felt when I couldn't locate the loo roll when we were staying with you, especially after that delicious but rather hot curry you made. And how sorry I am now I realise that I made an erroneous assumption that the pile of flannels were intended for the purpose I usually use toilet paper for...

    I know what you mean.
I don't understand why they don't have them here.
No more having to use wet wipes or wet toilet roll which sticks to your bum.
I agree that wet wipes are bad for the drains, it was mentioned on a tv program about a blocked drain in a street once.
I put mine in a used carrier bag and out to the bin.
I'm very uneasy about fortnightly rubbish collections regarding hygiene, but that's for another conversation.

You see those shower things in many middle eastern restaurants in London and I have been to a number of houses where they have them also. Not sure where you buy them from - plumbers must know? In my home (husbands family originate from middle east) we use a large sports bottle. Simply fill with lukewarm water before you use the loo and you can squirt yourself clean. I still wipe 1st, but husband just uses water - you can use liquid soap to give yourself proper clean. When I am out and about I use wet wipe after loo roll and discard that in the sanitary bin....

I can't let this forum "pass" without stating my olde maxim:

"Cheap toilet paper is always a false economy".

ie. get the best price you can on the best paper you can find.

Tesco used to do something called "designer" toilet roll, twenty years ago. Not so different from the embossed greek stuff you can buy at Lidl. So popular that they rebranded it to look more British (apart from the aloe vera).

Andrex? I abandoned it many years ago: it seems to be made of compressed pink dust!

ps. Don't forget you can save a small fortune on metered water by not flushing without 'good cause'...

Think on GRIMEFIGHTERS they asked us all not to put tissues down the loo...

This is especially true of the soft cotton wipes we used to buy for babies, now for our own benefit. They will block your sewers (along with all that cooking fat).

In Mexico and Dominican Republic they ask you to put all loo paper in a bucket...

This is true in most countries where the standards for drains fall short of those in the UK. They are too narrow, and/or not sufficiently separated between loo and non-loo outlets. Note that all UK loo downpipes are completely separate until they reach underground - not just under your apartment bathroom floor!

  • try and unload when your at work or out and about and use their resources!!

i usually plan for a quick dump about an hour before my shift finishes - keeps me ticking along until the next day

that is a great way of saving on bog roll
  • Farm Foods have the best ever loo paper and it's a lot cheaper than any supermarket. I think it's 9 rolls for £2.30 or thereabouts. It's much better quality and real VFM. It's soft enough for anyone...unless you have a problem bum of course then you need a bidet! lol

Is that the embossed at the edges with a coloured stripe stuff? Or was that from Poundstretcher?

Either way, I know a girl who swears by that stuff and she gets it for free. She always stuffs a roll from the ladies in her local pub in her handbag whenever she passes through. :D

Just an interjection -- next time someone says "walla!" I'm going to mentally smack them in the face. What you mean is "voil!!" - though I'd forgive you for not using the accent. This silly mistake does my head in!
