Most women are really, really into their shoes and would've spent a lot of time and effort choosing them for the wedding. Even if they do rub they'd most likely put up with it for the evening anyway. And those who do know they will be pining for flatties as the night goes on will have slipped a fold up pair of ballet pumps into their bag anyway.

I'll be honest my first thought when I read that was 'What???'.

I think the idea of having a basket with some pairs for grabbing if wanted is a good one, but aside from anything else won't it look at bit daft having pairs of flip flops all over the dining tables?:rotfl:

And I thought that wedding-guests sometimes got a mesh bag with some sugared almonds in it.

What's all this "wedding-favour" business and why do we want them? What is usual to give to wedding guests other than a meal/party and a nice time?

Wedding favours have a very useful function. The job of making them up is given to the mother, or MiL. That way they get to feel part of the process, and are kept too busy to get involved in stuff that the bride and groom want to do themselves. That's why it's usually some pretty organza fabric with sweets inside and tied up with ribbon - takes some time to make up 100 of them.
  • I'm having mini eggs as favours, but I did think about buying a few pairs of flip flops for people to change into if their feet were hurting as I know what my feet are like when wearing heels. But I'm having a total of 60 day guests 100 evening so will probably cater for 1/4 of them.

    It's a nice idea

Flip flops for what purpose? They are not attractive, not comfortable and don't go over stockings.

The common thing now is to have a basket of flip flop so people can change shoes if their shoes are hurting....

I have never seen this at a wedding - is it really all that common? Surely if you need a change of shoes you have ballet shoes stuffed in the bottom of a bag or in the car/hotel room for just in case?

OP I could understand the flipflops if it was a beach wedding, but then wouldn't everyone be wearing beach appropriate shoes anyway? Or are you having a beach theme of some kind?

We went with a little organza bag of Thorntons chocs - most people like chocs and I don't like sugared almonds :rotfl:They are surprisingly reasonably priced considering its decent chocolate! I did like the personalised M&Ms but really couldn't justify it :D

I'm for keeping it simple, I don't think guests need a gift parcel for coming to your wedding - some good food and good party and you're all set :j
  • I still don't get it! If ladies can't sort themselves out some alternative footwear to bring (if they know their shoes are too high/likely to pinch) then that's their problem - why would the bride and groom even need to think about this? What next, a 'survival box' wedding favour with tissues, wipes, paracetamol, tampax and condoms?
    Over futile odds
And laughed at by the gods
    And now the final frame

I have heard of people doing such "survival gifts" when an overnight stay is involved, or catering the guests with memento's of the happy couples day.

Some people just think the whole world cares about their relationship in the latter example. I don't really see the need for favours, the guests are already getting quite s bit what with the occasion, venue and food without the need for a kiddies birthday party bag.

Probably more useful than sugared almonds! :D

I've never been to a wedding where flip flops were provided and wouldn't wear them if they were. I don't ever wear them as I can't walk in them anyway and as has been said you can't wear them with tights. Surely you wear the footwear appropriate for the occasion so if you expect to be up dancing will either not wear heels at all or take a spare pair of flat shoes with you.
