    Me too...

Why would anyone want £1 flipflops at a wedding?

I also agree that the Americanised approach of 'favours' (UK spelling) is just, well, ugh.

Well the OP also spelt 'their' wrong too so perhaps its just bad spelling in general.

Maybe instead of getting them for a ll buy 20 or so pairs and place them in a basket to the side of the dance floor so if someone did want a pair they could help them self.

That way its the best of both worlds.

    Have a lovely wedding.

That's what they did at a wedding we went to a couple of weeks ago, they were all used! I brought mine with me already in the car, but the ladies who hadnt used them and they were really useful for dancing, and walking about on the grass playing games in the evening as it was 30c that day.
I still don't get it! If ladies can't sort themselves out some alternative footwear to bring (if they know their shoes are too high/likely to pinch) then that's their problem - why would the bride and groom even need to think about this? What next, a 'survival box' wedding favour with tissues, wipes, paracetamol, tampax and condoms?

The past two weddings Ive been to have had boxes of stuff like that in the loos. The sewing kit came in handy when my DH split his trousers :rotfl:And apparently the box of condoms in the gents box disappeared so people clearly do appreciate it! Not on the tables though lol!

At my nieces wedding recently she had put little boxes of handmade macaroons on each place setting, just 2 in a box, tied with ribbon to match her colour theme.

I think the flip flop idea is bonkers too, what will the men get, socks ?

Well op, you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't - so I'd do what you want - it's your wedding.

You supply almonds - some people don't like them
You give something personalised - some people don't like that
You can't please everyone. i think some people might be appreciative of something, even if others are mortified. So maybe supply a few, you could bling them up or add weddiny ribbons. Those that don't like them or have lovely comfy footwear already don't have to wear them :)
Hope you have a lovely day.

Personally I would love a pair of flip flops!! At my daughter's wedding I had on a very expensive pair of shoes and was hobbling around before the meal even began, I was in agony (serves me right for not wearing them beforehand). My BIL had to run to their house for a pair of my sisters shoes to save me going barefoot!
So a huge vote from me, lol. Guests can decide whether to wear or not! but I think a lot of women might be happy!
Have a lovely wedding and go with your instincts!

flip flops as a wedding favour? ok if you are getting married on a beach - but here in the UK?
sorry - but I would leave them. dont want them and would feel mildly insulted.
as a guest I dont NEED a favour - but, if you insist then the traditional five sugared almonds is fine. anything else is just one-upmanship.

I completely agree with your're damned if you do and damned if you don't comment. OP you do what you want on your special day, as long as it's what makes you and your OH happy who is anyone else to judge your decisions? Enjoy your day and remember to keep a pair of flip flops for yourself as I know my feet were killing me by 9pm :D

    .

What about if its a summer wedding with hot weather though? And guests can wear them after the wedding too.

I dont think its such a bad idea. At least theyre a useful favour! Better than the bits of rubbish you normally get. Id be quite pleased with a spare pair!

Although I still think just putting some in a basket near the dance floor is a better idea because they will look pretty huge on the tables everywhere.

    Wow - insulted?
There are lots of things people don't need to do for a wedding, but it's down to the bride's preferences not the guests. I wouldn't call a 99p pair of flip flops one-upmanship exactly anyway.
As it happens, I've never really liked a lot of the favours given to me, but it's all well meant and it's not my wedding - it's what couple's have wanted to do for their day.

  • I tend to go to dinner dances (ok not the same as a wedding apart from the meal & dancing lol!) and if my feet are hurting I just kick off my shoes and dance shoe-less....in fact that seems to the unoffical barometer as to how good the night has been.

I'm another one in the don't get the favour thing (but there again I don't get the latest fad of a sweetie bar either) - and especially the flip flop idea
