We ordered enough for 2 glasses of wine for everyone during the meal, and a glass of sparkling wine for the toasts. We've also got jugs of fruit juice for the children and grandparents table, as the grandparents are not big drinkers.

As everyone has difference tastes, instead of having a set welcome drink, we're giving my brother some money. He's in charge of buying everyone a drink of their choice at the bar on arrival!
Here I go again on my own....

Remember that some hotels charge corkage on wine that you bring in from outside.

We are having the drinks package the hotel provide, Bucks Fizz for arrival, Wine with meal and Champagne for toast.

Also a jug of water on each table

yeah :( so much so it was cheaper for us to go with their own drinks package

also ive heard stories whereby the staff of hotels have said that all the bottles have been used when really they havent and they take them home to drink themselves

SO if you do supply your own alcohol a good idea is to ask to see the corks from the used bottles ;)

well you cant be too careful eh :D

i suppose you only do it once (well you hope lol) but thats a stupendous amount of money ,esp if you are still paying it off now almost 12 months later
  • I'm not going to disagree with you, I would of gone for a cheaper wedding but my wife wanted it so I was happy to go along with it. Me and her parents tried to get to put it back a year as we would of not had to borrow any then, but she really didn't want to.

The one thing I wanted to spend the money on was the honeymoon, went to Kureda in the maldives. Highly Recommend it.

I wouldn't of changed a thing about it now tho, the place we had the wedding at was an amazing venue.

I'm getting married this July and I reckon our wedding will cost about £7500 with another £2000 on the honeymoon. My parents are paying for the wedding (their choice) and OH is paying for the honeymoon - 'bonus' money from work.

I think it's a question of balancing things. My dress is being handmade to my own design and so is a big chunk of the money, but I'm only having 1 bridesmaid and her dress came from BHS. The cake is coming from M+S with some flowers to decorate and I made my own invitations - have something you could easily pay £3 per invitation for from a card maker for about 70p per card and it's added the personal touch. I even got my mum to buy the stamps for sending out the invitations before the stamp prices went up the other week, saving 2p per invite (not much I know but every little helps  ) Then we're supplying drinks for the meal but a cash bar afterwards. We ordered all the men's suits together so we got the grooms free. We've got a week of our honeymoon booked with a specialist company that isn't cheap, but then have a couple of nights in a travel inn too (which will be paid for with leisure vouchers I've been earning on pigsback and ipoints, have been saving luncheon vouchers for meals out too and also tesco clubcard vouchers so OH will pay for main bit and I'm 'paying' for the extras. :money:

Oh I forgot as my signature says (it needs updating at present will do that when I get home) I've been selling on ebay, amazon and through work (will also do a car boot sale or two when the weather improves) and am using the money for wedding rings. so getting rid of stuff I don't need and downsizing the stuff we have too = lots of cds, vouchers etc into a little ring ;) :money:

We're not having favours, 3 weddings my mum's been to recently have all had favours and lots of people have left them behind etc. We decided that as we're giving people a meal and cake that was enough

My neice is getting married soon and I'm apalled she is making her parents waste even more money on buying favours. Mini scotch bottles for the men and chocolates for the ladies. I think they are naff and not needed. I've been to weddings and had the poem scroll with a fake wedding ring around (in the bin), a wicker ring with dried flowers on (in the bin), tulle with mini chocolate egss (ate the chocolate and binned the fabric), a smelly candle with date and intials on (burnt it!!). Also there's a trend for disposable cameras on the table. Trouble is people get drunk and take personal (you know body part) pictures for a laugh.

It's enough to be invited to the wedding and to have a lovely meal. Best I've been to is an informal buffet/carvery during the day. It was a glorious hot day so you could take your plate of food into the hotel's garden and socialise. The speeches were funny and informal. There was no disco party in the night the day just wound up about 9pm. It was fab.

it depends on if you are supplying just the welcome drinks and wine for meal plus a toasting drink

or if you are supplying ALL the drinks ie all day and or night?!

the "norm" is 1 welcome drink ,1 or 2 glasses of wine with meal (or just put bottles of red and white on each table) then 1 glass of fizzy for the toast

work out how many glasses each bottle of wine / champers is (i THINK its something like 6 glasses tho may be wrong) then work out how many people are coming :)

We are supplying the drinks for the whole night. I've brought drinks for the wedding breakfast. 1 merlot, 1 chardonnay, 1 sparkling wine and a few soft drinks per table.

The evening reception is for 5 hours 7pm-midnight and that's where I'm lost.
