My friend put large vases of sweets on the tables for her husbands 30th birthday party and they were indeed a great idea. It did get people talking. I'd definitely think of this idea.
2 years ago my friend had favour boxes for her wedding. 2 Thorntons choccies per box. She ordered a tray load from their website direct (£21.50 for 65-80!!) and then I volunteered to put them into the boxes she'd bought.
At weddings I enjoy the favours but I do think they are extravagant and certainly not a necessity. I think a glass bowl on each table with some sweets or even just chocs such as Roses/celebrations would be a great idea (but do just add a note for the guests to help themselves - guests can be so modest at times.)
Good luck (and wow...you are really lucky having your own personal wedding cheque0 -

I would say that this is about the most sensible suggestion I`ve seen.
If anyone wants more let them pay for it.
I`ve lost count of the times I`ve seen people make absolute pigs of themselves with free booze, even to the point of being sick.
Save the money for yourselves and new home.0 -
shirlyn can i ask why you feel the need to give free booze all night ?!!!
people wont / dont expect that
most people have a pay bar and just provide some /all of the drinks for the wedding brekkie
i agree with the above, people will take advantage of the fact its a free for all and get stupidly drunk / sick !!
IMO its not needed and expense that could be spared0 -
I would never expect a free bar if I was a guest at a wedding. Guests that are there all day get a free meal, evening guests get a buffet and they all get a good day out. You will have spent enough paying for the rest of the wedding so let them get drunk out of their own pocket, then you cant get the blame for them all making total fools out of themself
:)

Listen to this then:
140 litres of juices and waters (approx. 10l each of still and sparkling water, 25l of orange juice, 20l grapefruit juice, 30l blackcurrant juice, 25l apple juice plus 30l of Coca Cola and suchlike). 14 bottles white wine, 23 bottles red wine, 14 bottles champagne (this is just with dinner!) and two litres of vodka per head!
Plus any aperitifs, should anyone fancy any other tipple. Beer will be strictly served to anyone putting up a fuss as it does not mix with vodka well.
This is for 70 guests!
This is just a normal Polish wedding... and we wouldn't dream of making guests pay for anything (and weirdly, people are still turning down our invitations...):wall:0 -

In Poland, the wedding lasts till dawn, and then again the next day and everyone dances all night. Food is served throughout, continuously, so the effects of alcohol aren't as pronounced. Last one I witnessed was my brother's and the worst that happened was my dad falling asleep on a sofa at 3am.:wall:0 -

In my culture the bride, goom and there family always pay for the food and drinks for the night.
I've never been to a wedding where I've had to pay for drinks. Normally if you can't aford the reception when you get married then you'd just go to the registry off and have a reception when you can afford one.0 -

Well, you do get to sleep for a bit in the middle. I think there will be some time out 6am-12 on Sunday morning. And you would survive it fine, I'm sure - the pace is what you set yourself. Besides the ceremony is at 4pm, with the wedding at 6, so we're starting later than you would with a wedding breakfast.:wall:0 -
