princess10 wrote:Hi there, I am planning my wedding for september and would like everyones opinion on the idea.
Marriage in registry office at 12.00.
Wedding meal in Aroma
On to village hall, to decorate, plan etc.
Party guests arrive at 7pm.
We have about 25 at the ceremony so dont want a big sit-down meal.
We will have to decorate,do tables, lay out home prepared buffett ourselves so need a bit if time in the middle.
We plan to leave some guests in aroma while we decorate.
I would welcome any ones opinion or thoughts as we are doing it all ourselves.
Hi princess, that all sounds fine to me, although don't forget to allow enough time for photographs outside the registry office. Also, could you hire the village hall for two days? Then you could go in and decorate it the day before... would save you having to rush around on the day! All you would need to do then is lay out the food and you could get a couple of friends or relatives to do that, so you can relax and enjoy the day. :cool:0 -
Hi,
My friend is getting married this year, and is in the process of choosing a wedding photographer. Has anyone come across either one of these photographers? And if so, what did you think of them. Any advice welcomed.

Hi Helen,
Not heard of those but dependant on where you are, I can recommend Stuart Tippleston in northampton: -

I hope you don't mind, but I am conducting some market research and though you might all be able to help me.
I am interested to know how much people would spend on average on one wedding favour? I guess it would depend partly on how many people you are inviting to your wedding, so an indication of how much you would spend per 50 people would be great.
Your thoughts would be very much appreciated!0 -
I found my photographer through https://www.thempa.com (Master Photographers Association) - you can search for qualified photographers in your area.
Haven't heard of the people you mentioned though.0 -
I can highly recommend Brides Visited who we used at our wedding.
They were excellent photographers and lovely people. The photo's outside at the reception were like a show, and everyone was watching rather than disappearing to the bar, which was nice. They were not the cheapest, but no matter what you do, do not base your choice of photographer on price alone!0 -
What is it you like about the two you mention in your post?
Ebay is a place where bargains can be found for wedding photographers and as other people have mentioned there are lots of supplier directories.
Make sure you know what you want and what is on offer?
Is there a contract?
Do you get an album included?
How long will they photograph for?
Is there a limit to how many pictures they take?
Can you see the proofs the same day? If not how long after?
Make sure you ask what happens if you or they cancel.
Will they make the prints black & white at no extra charge?
What about cropping or soft-focus?
Are they digital, can you view the images online or have a CD?
Find out who will get the copyright and how long they keep your images and what they will use them for.
Find out how much future enlargements will cost?
And if they photograph the wedding or they employ other photographers.
What happens if it rains and do they have an assistant/second photographer?
Ask what back-up equipment they have?
Ask for a discount!
Most importantly choose one whose photographs you like, whether that be the cheapest or the most expensive.
What you can get for £300 on Ebay may cost you £600 direct from the Photographer's Website or on the High Street.Wedding Professional0 -
Thanks all for your posts, and thanks deecy for listing very relevant questions that me and my friend haven't thought of!

Getting married October this year, just started planning a few weeks ago and already see the cost mounting up!!!! We do have a budget and determined to have a day we can afford & not be paying for it afterwards.
Having a friday wedding as registrars cost £175 at chosen venue, which is cheaper than a Saturday.
Venue hire only £50 as having ceremony/meal & reception in same place. Getting 20% discount from menu as a friday, red carpet, champagne, flowers for top table & one night accomodation for bride & groom in package.
Bought brand new dress 'Benjamin Roberts' 3 piece, veil & tiara from ebay for £400 would have been £1100. Shoes £25 also from ebay shop.
Would love to hear from anyone with ideas for unusual favours, wedding cake, invitations & table centre pieces.
Really want to keep the cost down on all these things.0 -
jodrellcat wrote:Just found this post! Wish I had known about it five months ago. Anyway my daughter's alternative wedding was fantastic. The church was the most expensive over £500 !!! - and the choir couldn't sing! Anyway here are our tips. We hired a string quartet through Chetham's School of Music in Manchester (they were professional players not students), they played at the church before, during and after service and then packed their instruments and hi tailed it back to the house for the reception. No flowers in church, it is not that short of place but filled the house with dozens of supermarket roses bought the day before. Daughter's bouquet was gift from sister, catering by friends, cake bought in Selfridges after-Christmas sale, table cloths were cheap double sheets, cutlery bought wholesale, lots of good champagne bought in pre-Christmas offers from Co-op,Majestic warehouse and Bottom's Up, wine from a local auction, beer by friend who runs pub, table decorations by artistic friend,, transport for couple - a vintage tractor. Fantastic family party for nearly 100 followed by a brunch the next morning for those with stanima. And the sun shone even in January.
PSSST anyone want 10 double sheets and 200+ knives, forks and spoons?
Hi we have just received quotes from the caterers & the cost of table linen & crockery is making our eyes water! I am very interested in talking with you about the 200+ cutlery & tablecloths as our wedding is currently running at 150 people and we haven't had input from parents re the great aunt hilda that must be invited yet!!!
Great forum - I now feel I am not the 'only cheep skate' in town!0
