I can't give you a specific recommendation for a company but if you "think outside the box" a little and go for products that aren't marketted at the "wedding" market then you'll probably save a fortune. So try kiddies toy sites for the bubbles and general craft/gift wrapping places for the boxes. internet searches should bring up a pretty good array (at least for the wedding sites) and so you can start to get an idea of the region of price you'll be paying.

I've used them at Christmas before, and my boys thought they were great.

Oooo great! I didn't know Hawkins Bazaar were online.

  • Darling B/F proposed to me last week, and we got the ring on Sat, so now he is Darling Fiancee....and I have a wedding to plan!

I am soooo excited....he said that he would never do it again (ex-wife did the dirty on him), it didn't mean anything etc etc, but now he has changed his mind!

People in work think I am mad as we are hoping to get married at the beginning of March - I thin 'well, why hang about' but they all seem to think it takes years to plan.....welll, I did want a 'dream wedding' on the beach on holiday, but family were not too keen. Normally I would say 'sorry - my day', but as his kids are really keen to be involved I have backed down (future family harmony may have been at stake otherwise!!!!)

    Progress so far:

I have a registry office appt for us this Friday, to sort out the 'legal bits' and hopefully be able to book the date. Going for Friday as it should be easier to get.

I have 'pencilled in' a date at the venue I want for the party (small wedding, followed by massive great party so all our friends & colleagues & associates can join us to have fun!) - again helps going for a Friday as Sat's are soooo busy.

Spoken to the band I want to play, but they can't tell me if they can do it for a week (how much do people think I should be paying? - I normally book jazzbands for events, but this one is costing quite a bit more, and I haven't actually mentioned the W-word to them yet, just said 'family party'). I really, really want them though, so it all may hinge around them.....

We already decided where for the honeymoon, as it was going to be our big 'once in a lifetime' sort of holiday anyway, but yet to book it, although I checked and it is still available when we want it at the moment.

I've got ideas about making invites, know what sort of dress I want (evening, not really wedding) and seen a couple I like, and even have thought about dress for Step Daughter' and matching waistcoats for Fiancee & his 2 boys.

Have I missed anything important so far? Am I mad to think I can plan & execute wedding in 19 weeks (oh - almost forgot, I need to lose 2 stone in weight....aaarrggh!).

Can see me spending a LOT of time reading this thread!

  • trying to plan a super low budget wedding. been engaged for two years, but we're both students. we were going to wait until the year after we both graduate, but we both feel that now is the right time and also in the long run it will benefit us financially. obviously being students we want to and need to do it on a very low budget, so the plan is a registry office for the ceremony with close family and friends and then mayb back to my parents house afterwards for the shindig. but we would like to have a proper celebration later when we can really afford it and possibly renew our vows infront of the rest of the family. which we are both happy with and in the long run i definately don't want to spend an absolute fortune on a day for everyone else! I've been looking at dresses and i could go for something cheap to lower the budget, seen a quite nice evening dress in TK Maxx which is white and embroidered and could very easily double as a wedding dress and only £40, but on the other hand i would very much like to wear the same dress for both ceremonies, but the other dress i have seen in monsoon and have my heart set on is £250!

Congratulations kermitthefrog! At the end of the day it depends on how much you want to spend. However, if I were you then i would just worry about finding a dress for this wedding and don't worry too much about what you'll be wearing for the renewal. Having said that, if you have your heart set on the Monsoon dress and can work the budget so that you make savings in other areas then why not? I was going to go for a very simple dress, but my mum pointed out that I might feel a bit disappointed when i came to put it on on my wedding day. Rationally speaking you could turn up in anything and your OH would still be the happiest person alive, however it's ok to want to feel a sense of occasion too. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you need to weigh up your priorities and if dress takes president over photos/cake/venue of dreams then spend your money there and save it elsewhere.

  • i mean it is possible to do it on a low low budget i know. and we're going for a registry office and probabl going for mideek to save some money there. but the dress from monsoon would end up being the most expensive thing about the day! i think i'd probably get my family to rally round and make a cake and organise a finger buffet kinda thing. the dress in monsoon is just so great because its weddingy without being a merangue and it something i could wear for other occasions, which i would rather have than a dress i would wear for one day, or in my case two and then jst leave i the wardrobe, but its still £250 but despite it being low budget wedding and that e're goig to do it agai when we've got more money its still going to be my wedding and i want it to be special.also i'm not gona keep the dress and everything from my other half, so when i showed him the dress i'd seen in TK Maxx he kinda tured his nose up at it saying well would you really want to get married in a £40 dress from TK Maxx, so i don;t know whether to just treat myself. on the other hand maybe i'll be able to persuade my mum and nan to help me out, what with me being a poor student and all!

also has anyone else noticed how ridiculously long monsoons dresses r!!!i'm only little, as is my cousin who is getting married in august. i'm one o her bridemaids and she's getting our dresses from there, they r gorgeous tho. she tried the dress on that i've got my heart set on and it completely swamped her, so depends what its like on me, i'm a little bit taller, so hopefully with a pair of heals it might be ok, if not my mum and nan r a dab hand with a sewing machine, so that can b their department!
  • Hi

We are looking at having a very cheap 1920's gangster themed wedding! Has anyone got ideas for favors.... must be cheap and not necessarily fitting the theme. I have already got little bags - just need something to fill them - ideally original. I don't want the bog standard sugared almonds!

    Thanks

  • themed weddings r such a cool idea and can be made so original and personal to you. i won't let my other half know about ur gangster theme though, he is absolutely obsessed with anything 'gangster' especially films! unfortunately i don't share his love for it. can't think of anything at the moment but will have a think about it and c what i come up with

Had a think and thought about maybe little toy guns with either personalized (http://www.confetti.co.uk/shopping/newshop/searchresults.asp?cat=417) or just married ribbon(http://www.confetti.co.uk/shopping/newshop/productview.asp?cat=660&id=W62017) tied on them.
Or why not dress as gansters and get someone to take a photo of you and personalize them urself (by signing them like film stars or writing a personal message)

Good Luck when the big day comes
    :p
