Claire's Accessories do lovely tiaras and hair decorations aimed at brides and such. TK Maxx sell the most wonderfull evening/bridesmaid dresses usually about £50, but sometimes much cheaper, so they are definitely worth checking out. You could try advertising to buy a kilt outfit as no doubt someone will have one stuck at the back of a wardrobe, and let's face it, it's hardly likely to be out of fashion, but I suspect hiring will be the best option for that. Find out if there is a local pipe band, and see if anyone is willing to play for you in return for a small fee. And finally, all the supermarkets do really good value lillies these days, so why not just buy a few bunches and if you want to finish them off a bit more, wrap ribbon (co-ordinating with your dress, or the bridesmaids) around the stems and even add a few pearls or diamantes if you want to go really glam.
Good luck and have fun. :beer:0 -
Congratulations!
If you have time to make stuff, there is a Tiara here that looks simple:

Hiya,
I got married 3 weeks ago. I went to Marks and Spencer for some roses and bought two bunches, one pink, one cream at £2.99 each. I was getting married at 4.30pm so at 3.30pm I ripped open the flower bags, bunched them together, tied some hessian ribbon around and chopped the stems off. I made one for me and one for my daughter ...... total cost with ribbon and long grass stuff (plastic- from B&M bargains, bought on impulse the same morning) £7 ish.... ok they're not amazing but I only had hold of them for about 4 minutes.
I got some hair crystals from Clares Accesories which 'screw in' to your hairdo. They're not as in your face as a tiara but still pretty and sparkly.Just run, run and keep on running!0 -

fanks!
The only reason I had flowers was because when you hold a bunch of flowers your arms look better as they don't squash against your sides....therefore you (I) look less fat :rolleyes:Just run, run and keep on running!0 -
Callisto wrote:Also have minimal flowers on the tables to save money (have stem vases with just one or two flowers in each).
Instead of flowers, I thought of buying some plain glass candlesticks and tall dinner candles. Then add a few small silk flowers from a craft shop wound round the stem in the wedding colours. I thought it would simple and elegant.
Just an idea floating round in my head at the moment, so I'm not actually sure if it will work or not! The hotel says you can have candles but not balloons and vice versa, so something else to consider if you want balloons too.
I wasn't keen on fresh flowers on the table as we're marrying away from home, so they will go to waste as they may not survive a car journey. I can also make them in advance and take them to the hotel in the week before the wedding. I'm getting married in Scotland so we have to pick the wedding papers up personally in the week before the wedding, so I was planning on dropping the cake and table stuff off then. Here I go again on my own....0 -

Just reminded me, I got some of those big chunky candles from Asda which sat on saucers on the table, looked really nice and were scented too.
I really wanted to use the seeds idea for favours but there was nothing that could be planted so late in the year, so I bought boxes of Bendicks choccies for everyone, they were about 60p each from Woolies and were really nice.
Here's a pic of our table (the tables weren't quite lined up but you get the general idea) BTW there were only 19 of us so we only had this one table)Just run, run and keep on running!0 -
What about the small orangina bottles, nice shape with only two carnations, one to match brides dress the other the colour of bridemaids!:j0

Blimey!!!!!
I went to a florist for inspiration and they quoted £100 for a hand tied rose bouquet. I know it would've been absolutely lovely, much bigger and nicer than mine but I REALLY only held the darn thing for about 4/5 mins...... just while I walked into the room, then I put it down for the rings and only picked it up for the above photo.Just run, run and keep on running!0
