Anita_Drake wrote:As a wedding tip- could anyone please give me a written idea how to word the gift list? It's a real dilemma as it's both our second wedding and we'd like to ask for gift vouchers from well known stores, but the problem is , how do we word it ?
Please help, it's doing me head in. Thankyou,
Anita
We had one lovely invitation that was worded something like this ..
Please remember we would rather your presence rather than your presents .........etc, etc.
or
Dear Family and Friends,
As we have no wedding list we
would be grateful to receive
B&Q Vouchers for our home improvements
Many Thanks

or how about for weddings where no gifts are wanted.
To travel here is no small feat.
We've asked so much - it's true.
One more ask, if you accept...
no gift is bought - it comes in you!

*+*+*+ Oxfam Brides +*+*+*
This has been mentioned before but my friend went to the one in shirley, Southampton on Friday and was dead impressed so I thought I would give it another mention. Basically Oxfam brides sell seconds, second hand or worn once on the catwalk type dresses - fab quality at knock down prices.
This link will tell you where your nearest one is.

Flowers - apologies if this has already been mentioned. Make sure any flowers on the top table etc. are given away to female members of the family or friends - don't see why the reception venue should get to keep them!
I also lost my grandfather near to my wedding and so rather than throwing it, my mum put my bouquet on his grave for me the next day whilst I was winging my way to Jamaica!!'My father told me to go for it.
So I went for it. But it had gone.'0 -
If you are having your reception in community centre/village hall etc, rather than buy tablecloths for the table, use new white sheets, it works out much cheaper and you will have a use for them afterwards. There's no woman sicker than the woman who is sick on her day off !0

Slinky wrote:Has anybody seen a decent selection of wedding dresses that don't expose your back? I'm not really comfortable with that sort of design. I trawled through a website yesterday looking at hundreds, and found only 2, and one of them was meringue style which I don't want.
Help!
Try http://www.pronovias.com they have some gorgeous dresses, I have a lace jacket over my dress it's from Alfred Angelo. http://www.alfredangelo.com
I wanted a dress that didn't expose my arms as I have scars, I found it hard but if you perservere you'll find the dress for you. There are some gorgeous dresses with jackets or boleros and when you find the one you want all the trawling will be worth it.
Good Luck0 -

I work in hotels and here's tip I've have stolen from Masonic ladies evenings:
Get the hotel or someone who doesn't know all the guests to put a small mark or star or something on 1 random ladies place card and the announce that the lady with the mark gets the table flowers, this a good way of deceding who gets them and makes it fair to avoid arguments!0 -
Apologies if this has been asked / answered before. Does anyone know the best way to clean the wedding dress after the big day?
cheers

I recently found my old meringue dress from my first wedding up the loft. It was made from satin and lace and had 2 hoops in the skirt. I carefully unpicked the casing seam and took the hoops out, and put the dress in the washing machine on a delicate wash.
I hung it on a coat hanger on the shower curtain rail till it was dry, then stiched the hoops back in.
It came out fine and I was able to sell it second hand, and the lady who bought it was thrilled to bits with it.
The dry cleaners quoted me £60 to dry clean it, so I was pleased with the saving. Here I go again on my own....0 -
does anyone know the cost of bridesmaids and pageboys? i have been bridesmaid twice and would like to have both the girls i was bridesmaiding for as my own bridesmaids, and have 3 other close friends who could fill the position too but am worried as to the escalating cost. do i have to pay for the dress/ shoes/ suit hire/ accomodation/ gifts for all of these?:A0

I think it's normal to pay for their outfits and a gift, but not accomodation.....although I think my parents might have paid for my bridesmaid's room now I think of it...... I did only have the one bridesmaid as it was easier, cheaper, and I didn't really have much for her to actually do in the way of duties. I'm sure your other friends would be just as thrilled to be involved in other ways, such as doing readings, helping with flowers, etc, as I know some of my friends were. HTH.0

Just decided to get married on the spur of the moment, we've been engaged for years and I saw a nice dress and thought well why not??
So we have decided Nov 26th with a civil service in a hotel by the sea in Largs. All fine so far! But we are doing this on a budget! We have family and friends to make invitations, cake and do photography, but I would like a piper (we're English but live in Scotland), cheap bridesmaids dresses, cheap kilt hire and cheap live music. Also any suggestions for alternatives to flowers for me/tables, alternative hair ideas (no veil required), we want it informal sp ideas for alternatives to speeches etc.
Cheers!0
