    Congratulations Shirlyn.

I am getting married in July next year too.

There is no one good website - I think people have cottoned on pretty quickly that weddings are big bucks so you do have to shop around.

I am just posting my recent find which is

10% of maggie sottero wedding dresses with aug/sept cosmo bride! This could save you over £100.

    dear all..
thanks for all your lovely ideas. i'm getting married in june next year- hurrah! we've just got around to organising wedding and reception venues. we decided it was going to be an experience to remember so we're not doing it all the MSE way, BUT i need to scrimp and save where i can, because...
we're having 2 (yes, not one but two) wedding ceremonies- one hindu in a temple and one christian in a church
we both have HUGE families (and we can't even think about not inviting all of them as they would be mortally offended)- and they all seem to want to come
we both have certain close friends, and it wouldn't be the same without them

are there any books/ websites for fab (and cheap, but very expensive looking) table centre decorations?
has anyone got flowers direct from the flower markets (eg covent garden) and how easy/ cheap is it to do this?
does anyone have a nice car we can borrow to chauffeur me to the venues? (heh heh only joking)

    thanks..

Congratulations to everyone getting married! :D

Pookie, we (OK, mostly my parents!) did spend a good few thousand pounds on our wedding and honeymoon, but it was still MSE style, IMO, because MSE is about getting as much as possible for your money, not necessarily cutting back or cutting down, and we certainly feel we got way more than our money's worth.

As a very general rule, if you want expensive looking but cheap things, go for a very simple "classic" look.

For example, we did this by keeping everything white and green, and had an unfussy look, so the table decorations were just clouds of gypsophilia and a few bits of long grass in long thin vases that we borrowed, we didn't have anything like table confetti (or any confetti, full stop!), we had plain white tablecloths (provide by the venue) and plain white napkins (the venue provided paper ones, so my parents actually bought linen ones from ebay and are gradually giving them away as presents and will keep lots to use for future parties), we tied the napkins with just a thin piece of green ribbon, we didn't have any favours, and the only fancy thing on the tables were little butterflies that were attached to the place name cards and they weren't that expensive. A friend hand wrote the name cards for us and Mr Thrift and I stuck the butterflies on.

I have probably got photos that I can email you if you'd like to see the finished look - just PM me with your email address.

Congratulations Shirlyn and Alison! I'm also getting married next July - 29th to be precise. I can't wait, however my mum and I are already having arguments over the invitations - I want to make some simple ones and she wants the "classic" look.

There's a sale on at the confetti site: https://www.confetti.co.uk for some bits and pieces.

I've also bought my shoes from ebay - unworn ivory shoes for £6.50 including postage! Pretty good bargain, I thought!

Pretty amazing bargain, I would say, Vicky! :D

Sorry to hear you're having "discussions" about the invitations though. But I'm confused - couldn't simple be classic too? Did I send you a copy of the invites we made on MS Word? They were very simple (to look at and to make) and I think they were very classic and elegant too (IMHO!)

Let me know if I didn't and you'd like to see it (and anyone else who'd like to too of course!) Just PM me.

Ah, classic to my mum is the exact same style that she had - no deviations for anything so horrendous as - gasp - a flower. :rotfl:

If you are making your own invitations you are best to use something like Pagemaker, its just easier to fiddle around with than word.

    Good luck
    That mrs macchicken to you!

    Hen Night Money Saving Tip

I saw in Tesco yesterday a pack of 8 sheets for you to print on then iron onto TShirts - Hey presto 8 T Shirts for the girls for the price of one professionally printed one. Also at Tesco Value White T shirts for a couple of pounds.

    Table Dressing Tip

If you want to give your guest wedding a favour then why not combine this with name cards and maybe put a personalised gift like some seeds with pretty typed out envelope and poem like

    Plant these flowers
    Let them bloom
    Remember fondly
    The bride and groom
    And how this day
    The vows they share
    With work and nurture
    Grow so rare
    A marriage that
    Is based in love
    And like these seeds
    Is from above.
