    Hi everyone!

Apologies if this has already been suggested by anyone (I'm new to the forums!): I went to a family wedding last Saturday and, instead of confetti, we threw rose petals. If you collect flower petals for a few months beforehand (the earlier the better, really)and buy some thickish 'Congratulations' type wrapping paper, make it into cones, and fill each cone with petals, it makes an excellent, organic alternative to confetti. You can make pretty labels to stick at the top of the cones with the couple's names and the date, too. The bridesmaids handed out the cones after the actual ceremony, and the photos of when it was thrown look fantastic - a bit different to paper confetti, anyway!

I think this is a lovely idea and I'm hoping to have it for my wedding next year.

Any volunteers to help me make 100 cones? :D:D:D:D

My partner & I are probably having a black cab to get us to the church on time - well register office. I had thought about getting it wrapped in a one off image to compliment the day - but that might be expensive!

Ebay has wedding photographers so don't just use it for clothes

    Hello All,

As I've mentioned on another board somewhere, I'm just starting to plan my wedding for September 2004 and I'm attempting to do it in money saving style. !I thought I'd share some tips as I go along and (hopefully) learn. !So, here we go:

Firstly, it seems there are a couple of ways of looking at a money saving wedding - either spending as little as possible or getting as much value for money as possible while not cutting back on much. !At the moment I don't know what our final available budget is going to be so I'm considering both ways.

Tip No. 1 - If it doesn't cause too many problems with logistics, etc, holding the wedding on a Friday or Sunday can reduce the cost of the reception (and sometimes ceremony) venue by up to half. !Most other service providers offer discounts for non-Saturday weddings, too.

Hope this will help some people out there. !Watch this space for more. !Any more tips (both money saving and stress reducing!) will be gratefully received. ! :D

Insert from Martin 14th September: Two quick things, first of all congrats to Ms. Thrift who started this wonderful discussion so long ago and is getting married this Saturday.

Second to say, this is such a good chat, and is now so long, at some stage coming soon we're going to compile the info into a MoneySaving article - so it'll be much easier to read.

As a wedding tip- could anyone please give me a written idea how to word the gift list? It's a real dilemma as it's both our second wedding and we'd like to ask for gift vouchers from well known stores, but the problem is , how do we word it ?
Please help, it's doing me head in. Thankyou,
    Anita

We have the same problem as he's moving into my house so we've got the usual toaster, dinner service etc.

There are a few things we could do with like new pans and kitchen knives. I was going to buy a little spiral bound notebook and put one item on each page with the shop and price, so people can remove the page and take it as a shopping list.

At the back I'm going to write something along the lines of we're planning on redecorating the dining room next year, so any DIY shop vouchers would be appreciated. Also we're redoing the front garden so garden centre vouchers will allow us to buy plants and shrubs that will give pleasure for years to come.

    Hope that helps!
Here I go again on my own....

Has anybody seen a decent selection of wedding dresses that don't expose your back? I'm not really comfortable with that sort of design. I trawled through a website yesterday looking at hundreds, and found only 2, and one of them was meringue style which I don't want.

I don't know which websites you have tried, but there are lots of dresses at sharethedream.co.uk and at hitched.co.uk. I would imagine somewhere in there are dresses which might do you.
    When in doubt, make soup.

Have you started having trying on sessions yet Slinky? Shops should have large selections of styles for you to try and you may be surprised at what you actually do and don't like when you actually try it on. When the lady in the shop first showed me my dress on the hanger I didn't like it at all but I was proving hard to please so was trying on anything and everything.....and I loved it on!

Even if you don't plan to buy from the shop they don't have to know that! ;) Just get trying, and enjoy! :)
