    Dear nh,
Thank you for the advise/tip...it is really well appreaciated. So far we have managed to give out the save the date cards and would be soon giving out the proper invites in 2- 3 weeks time...We have asked a couple of friends to helpus out nf fortunately, they have maanged to spare us a bit of their time....In the past few weeks after joining MSE, I have learned a lot from everybody...We just wanted a very nice and memorable wedding that wouldn't put us into debt at the end of the day...Thank you very much again...

  • For excellent advice from experts, try https://www.allexperts.com.

Go to 'people / relationships' on the homepage and the to 'weddings'.
I spoke to a Uk expert called sarah and she was BRILLIANT!

She really knew what she was talking about and had genuine experience in weddings. I believe they vet their experts before taking them on so you're assured of good, knowledgeable and professional advice.

My mother-in-law actually made our chcolate wedding cake (which isn't possible for everyone) which we used for dessert, supplying a raspberry sauce and cream to go with it. At least it ensured the wedding cake was all eaten and it saved us 70 x £4.50 on top.

    My life motto:

[glow=red,2,300]IT'S NOT WHAT YOU KNOW, IT'S WHO YOU KNOW [/glow]

Applies to pretty much everything. For the wedding it meant that we:

    1. Had an aunt make a cake, it was free (wedding present) and exactly what we wanted.

    2. Booked the car (a Mercedes) through the MIL, result it cost us £60 and he did three trips.

    3. Mum and I made the bridesmaids dresses, buying material was much cheaper than made dresses.

    4. We became close friends with the vicar, and he helped us bring the cost of the ceremony down, he also printed our order of service sheets for a small charge.

    5. We got a 10% discount from the florist and photographer as I had met them through a local wedding fair.

It never hurts to get to know people with skills!!!

Last of all, never be afraid to complain. We ordered our stationary through John Lewis, when we received it some of the invites were faded, they gave us a complete refund! Also, we used a hire company for the gents suits, when they arrived on the big day the fittings weren't all correct and some buttons etc were missing, we received a partial refund for that.
It's not WHAT you know, it's WHO you know

    Planning a wedding for 15/07/2006..........

Was a bit busy on this thread earlier this year, but other things took over, like moving house, health issues, work issues, that sort of thing..... but all is good, thanks in GOOD PART to this site....

Talking with my fiance this morning about our Christmas decorations, our tastes being similar - traditional, natural, like pinecones and holly and that sort of thing, I casually suggested that we could theme our (medieval influenced/traditional/register office/nil budget) wedding to the colours of Red Gold and Green, and use our Christmas decorations! I haven't told him that my dress is gonna be Blue (medieval influence), but I think it would still go?

    Whaddya think?

The one thing we haven't saved on is our honeymoon, we are going to the Maldives!  Only 6 weeks today till the big day and I am so excited!!

    Hi Jess,

I hope your honeymoon location is still intact after the Tsunami, or that you find somewhere else to go. I know someone who was meant to fly to Sri lanka on Boxing Day for a holiday and went to Cuba instead.

We are going to Cuba for our honeymoon, if you have to choose another destination, it is supposed to be brilliant there. Or Antigua is supposed to be a romantic location.
    I'm married now! Yippee!

    Re. invitations

I want to use card and put paper inside with the writing on, secured with silver ribbon vertically around the middle of the card. What type of paper should I use?
