hi there
My wife and i got married in Kenya last year and we're three days from our anniversary
Anyway the whole experience from start to finish was a dream and very straight forward-from the arrangement through Thomas Cook and Kuoni we couldn't have wished for a better holiday and wedding.
We helped finance our wedding by buying Thomas Cook vouchers off the internet (ebay)(the ones that are directly transferable against the cost of any thomas cook product) We bought approx £1800 worth of vouchers over a few months and saved about £250 that way it was fun and we saved.
The wedding and holiday( Beach and safari )cost less than £4000 -and was worth every penny!!
Remember caveat emptor when it comes to ebay.
Good Luck to the to be Newly weds ;D0 -
Hope the wedding goes wel Ms T
Ooooh how exciting - you will have to post up some photo's!

My daughter went on an ebay shop site called bridal silk road. She had to send an email to the maker of all her measurements and a few months later her brand new hand stitched wedding dress arriveed. It is stunning and if you want to email me I will send you a picture of the dress. It would easilly cost over £1000 from a shop.
I tried to find the shop but can't do you have a link for it? I would be interested in getting something mad, it is a dress for a day so ideally don't want to spend more than 500 or I might cry!0 -
I think I had the Bridal Silk Road shop bookmarked myself but deleted the bookmark after I bought from waimanman. I can't find it now either - maybe they've either changed names or stopped trading on eBay. Maybe the earlier poster could ask her daughter the seller ID? The same seller might still be there but might have decided that they don't want a shop any more.
I can suggest a couple of other eBay shops from my own research: as well as waimanman (mentioned in several previous posts), XJ Bridal and Special Day Weddings are worth a look. They both do made-to-measure dresses for under £200.0 -
Hiya Everyone,
Just to let you all know it went wonderfully well - thanks to everyone for your tips and everything else. ;D
I've posted an account of the whole day in the MS Arms, if anyone's interested in just how many times I almost cried! ::)

Hi Everyone
Here's a post-wedding tip.
Following our wonderful wedding back in June, my wife took her very expensive designer wedding dress to be cleaned at the local dry-cleaners. There really is only one dry cleaners around here so we had little option. Anyway they assured us that they cleaned wedding dresses regularly.
We should have known better, when we collected it we found it had shrunk a couple of sizes and had gained what looks like water stains. The boning around the waist was all broken so it looked crooked and very tatty. My wife is now so upset. It seems to be taking forever to sort out.
Does anyone have any tips on saving on solicitors fees?
So, the moral is don't try to save on cleaning bill if the dress is expensive, make sure your dry-cleaner is reputable and a member of a trade organisation. Ours wasn't.
Never mind we will be off on our honeymoon soon so hopefully we will be able to forget about it for a while. Let's hope the weather is a bit sunnier in the southern hemisphere.
Regards

This is my first ever MSE post after lurking for a bit, I hope it helps someone....:
We were married in July 2003 and did all the shopping around, calling in favours and all the rest of it. Here are some of our probably more unusual money saving tips:Check out https://www.hitched.co.uk - its got a great wedding forum where you can get recomendations, and money saving tips.
I bought my wedding dress for £15 from our local PDSA charity shop. We weren't even engaged at the time but it was the perfect dress and what a bargain!
We only invited 34 people to the meal after our church service but invited more for the evening, and told all the evening people when the service was and that we'd love to see them there. So we had a big crowd in the church without having to invite them for the sit down meal.
As we walked down the aisle at the end of the service everyone blew bubbles at us which we had put in the pews earlier on. Much cheaper than expensive confetti, no clearing up, and everyone was laughing and smiling (the best bit of the day actually!)
We served bucks fizz (ready mixed cheap stuff from Asda - £1.84 a bottle) in plastic wine glasses, at the end of the service. As we were still using the church there was no corkage to pay (unlike at a hotel) so it was a really cheap thing to do. Kept it in cool bags during the service, roped in brothers and sisters to serve it.
Didn't have a traditional wedding list - had a honeymoon list instead so people contributed towards the cost of our honeymoon.
Didn't have a wedding cake - having been to so many weddings where the cake just doesn't get eaten, we thought it would be a waste. No one missed it.
Used the caterers we hire in at work, to do the evening buffet. So they gave us a good price a) they want the continuing business from me and b) they know that I know how much it should cost rather than a 'wedding supplier' trying to make a quick buck.
We had a company do our video who had only just set up and we were their first customers - so they did both VHS and DVD versions, for only £30, on the agreement they could use our video to show future customers.
Happy weddings everyonesomething missing0 -
I think the Ebay seller some of you are looking for is jennieqxw who has a shop called SilkRoad Bridal and more. Just go to 'advance search' and choose 'search by seller' and type in jennieqxw and bob's your uncle ;D
I can also recommend mikemkm910 for shoes. I bought a brand new pair of Rainbow Club shoes, rrp £60 for just £15. They arrived in all the original packaging with tissue paper and everything and they fit like a dream !
I get married in Oct 2005 and i'm already getting stressed as everyone seems to think its THEIR day all of a sudden >:( Any tips for chilling out ???0 -
Littlemoo,
It's very frustrating when people start taking over.
When I married my ex his mother took over the show. I put up with it because I was young and I didn't want to offend her. I was afraid of sticking up for myself but in hindsight I wish I'd said "Look, you've HAD your wedding, this one's MINE... now B****R OFF" >:(
I ended up resenting her and her interfering was instrumental in my divorce.
I'm marrying again next August and woe betide the person who tries to take over ;D
Some people see their wedding as a day to share, for everyone to get involved in, but me?.....not one of those people ;D
Stick up for yourself; a polite " No, thanks but I've got it covered" works wonders on people who try to take over.
Any mother-in-laws to be...take heed ;D:-*
Just run, run and keep on running!0
